Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov: the war in Ukraine will continue and is likely to escalate. Lavrov has been a hawk saying versions of this for 4+ years. Nothing new here. What is interesting: zero reaction from #wheat. Yesterday wheat was supposedly selling off on “Black Sea de-escalation” headlines - which were mostly a sloppy misinterpretation of comments from Lavrov’s deputy. Today we get a clearly hawkish headline from his boss. Wheat doesn’t care. The market seem to be simply numb to Black Sea news, for now. So please, lazy analysts/journalists: stop explaining every few ticks with a word salad of “Black Sea,” “grain deal,” “negotiations,” etc. Yesterday’s move was largely driven by the broader ag sell-off amid the BRL move and extremely weak export inspections. #oatt #blacksea #sizovreport

Is something changing in the Black Sea? Despite harsh rhetoric from Kyiv, we haven’t seen a publicly reported attack on a merchant vessel near Russian Black Sea ports for three weeks. The last one was the attack on the AFRAMAX RIO tanker near Sochi on October 6. Is this de-escalation? And what does it mean for Black Sea exports? "#Wheat continued to move lower amid new rumors that Moscow might accept a deal in the Black Sea” The new rumors: "We are in dialogue with several nations—including Turkey—on this subject...I currently see no prospects for reviving the 'grain deal'," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alimov
❌🌾As you may have seen, last week I bought wheat because I thought the market was in for a very aggressive downtrend, even though there was no strong catalyst. The market had already priced in a deal that never materialized. Today, however, it continued to move lower amid new rumors that Moscow might accept a deal in the Black Sea. With support levels broken, I cut my losses because my outlook was no longer valid. As I said, this is part of the game, which is why I kept my risk under control. I still think the market’s reaction is extreme, but I’m waiting for another opportunity to get in. Never think you’re smarter than the market. The house always wins.

BBG: #wheat erased the Black Sea risk premium after a report that Moscow is considering proposals to secure grain shipments. Reality, from Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister: “We are reviewing proposals received from various countries... We see no possibility of reviving the ‘grain deal’ in any format.” Fun market. #blacksea #oatt #sizovreport

"Russian winter #wheat area will collapse amid tumbling domestic prices!" Well, the latest planting data aren't exactly cooperating. The lag behind last year shrank from 1.1 mln ha to just 0.3 mln ha in one week. Doesn't mean all the risks are gone. But that narrative isn't aging well. Some FX risk over the weekend. Add Brazil's election to the mix -> USDBRL->#soybeans #oatt #wheat #corn
Moody's France review comes out around 5 p.m. NY tonight. Four scenarios: •Affirm Aa3, negative outlook: Bullish EUR. The market is short euros, so this would squeeze into Monday. Low probability. EUR up 60 pips. •Cut to A1, stable outlook: The base case and mostly priced, given where spreads are. Could even trigger a small relief rally in OATs. Mildly bullish EUR, if anything. No impact on EURUSD. •Cut to A1 with a negative outlook, slightly more bearish than stable outlook. EUR down 30 pips. •Cut two notches to A2: Bearish EUR. Two notches would be a barnburner and would probably take EURUSD through 1.1150 support at the open and down to 1.1065 by European open Monday.

Another merchant vessel has been sunk in the Black Sea. KHORYV was reportedly struck by a drone just 13 nautical miles off Constanța - again right outside Romanian territorial waters. The vessel was sailing from Ereğli to Sulina carrying ferrous materials. Another one. What could systematic attacks in the western Black Sea mean for #grain flows out of the region? Euronext #wheat lost 238. Now 232 is the level to watch. Why it matters: funds are still almost record long. If 232 gives way, there could be a lot of length to unwind... And then there’s the July gap around 223. #oatt #sizovreport

"...discussions will continue with trilateral talks between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine at the technical level." Don't hold your breath. #oatt #wheat #sizovreport
In Oslo and St. Petersburg, @JaredKushner and I met with Russian, Ukrainian, and European leaders to advance President Trump’s mission to end the war. In St. Petersburg, we met with President Putin to build on the progress made in Oslo with President Zelenskyy, discuss a peace framework, and thank President Putin for releasing American citizen Stephen Hubbard to return home to his family. These discussions were constructive, and will continue with trilateral talks between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine at the technical level. While there is still important work left to do, President Trump remains committed to seeing this war end and achieving a comprehensive, durable peace that will provide security and prosperity for generations to come.

CBOT #wheat is back to July levels. So the Black Sea export disruption is over? No. Shipments are still running at roughly half normal levels. Maritime ceasefire coming? Doesn’t look like it. Maybe importers can just wait a few months more - or a year - for all that “cheap, ample wheat” locked in Russia and Ukraine. Sure. Let’s just stop eating bread until 2028. What’s wrong with this market, folks? Our take: sizov.report/?utm_source=twi… #blacksea #oatt #sizovreport

Another El Niño “humanity is doomed” piece. A collection of scary quotes, PR slop about an “unusually alpha-rich environment,” and very little actual market analysis. If you're a journalist, take note: El Niño can hurt crops in some regions and BENEFIT others (US winter #wheat typically benefits from wetter conditions; El Niño also tends to favor crops in Argentina and southern Brazil, while bringing drier conditions to central and northern Brazil). That doesn't automatically translate into lower global production or higher food prices. And yes, food commodity prices are rising. But for #grain, the main driver has been the Black Sea export disruption, not El Niño. #oatt #agwx #doomandgloom

Tend to agree. ---- "The Americans’ “new proposals” offer little reason for optimism and have failed to generate much enthusiasm in Moscow. Nevertheless, shifts on economic issues, the prospect of partial sanctions relief and the desire to keep Trump satisfied have given Putin sufficient grounds to agree to resume negotiations, particularly as doing so comes at little cost to Moscow. All the latest statements and signals suggest that Moscow does not currently see an acceptable, or even remotely satisfactory, offer on the table. Yet it is prepared to engage in discussions for tactical gains". #oatt #wheat #blacksea
Putin agreed to resume trilateral talks on a settlement in Ukraine. This is so far the main outcome of Steve Witkoff’s trip to St. Petersburg. The last meeting between Russian, Ukrainian and American representatives took place in February, and even then, Moscow viewed the process less as a genuine attempt to resolve the conflict than as a tactical exercise, albeit one accompanied by substantive technical discussions on the modalities of a ceasefire. The talks were supposed to resume following Witkoff and Kushner’s visits to Moscow and Kyiv in September. However, Zelensky’s decision to focus on pressuring Moscow into concessions, which led to intensified strikes during the voting days, instead convinced Putin that Russia should harden its position. Moscow signalled that it now wanted not only the entirety of Donbas and the other annexed territories, but was also prepared to fight to establish a buffer zone beyond them. This was not a new position, but Russian officials have long adjusted how firmly they articulate their demands depending on the circumstances. The resumption of talks thus became another card to play. Judging by Ushakov’s rhetoric, the Americans’ “new proposals” offer little reason for optimism and have failed to generate much enthusiasm in Moscow. Yet it is prepared to engage in discussions for tactical gains, calculating that these, combined with the further deterioration of the Ukrainian state, may eventually produce a strategic shift in Russia’s favour.

#Ukraine’s #grain S&D burden keeps building. We cut our 2026/27 #wheat and #corn export forecasts by another 5 mmt combined as Black Sea disruption deepens. The 2026 crop is expected to be strong, but with exports cut again, carry-out stocks are looking extremely high. Meanwhile, 2027 winter wheat sowing is already running ahead of last year. How high could stocks get, and what does it mean for the market? Our new Ukraine Crop & S&D Report: sizov.report/reports/31504/?… #Ukraine #blacksea #oatt #sizovreport
