What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Four years of ownership with the Model 3!
Odometer is at 136,944 miles, which means we've put 92,000 miles on the vehicle since we purchased it four years ago. This past year was the first full year that it wasn't our primary vehicle, and it shows, with only 12,111 miles for the year. The car is now seven years old, but the white interior has held up extremely well, with only minor signs of wear, and still white!
This year the suspension was showing its age, and I had the upper front control arms as well as lower compliance links replaced. Next month I'll also be replacing the front bumper after some unfortunate run-ins with our garage door, and the Rivian's tire 🙃 (The Rivian went unscathed)
When I went looking for a picture for this post, I realized I hadn't taken a photo of it since 2024, as it's been that long since I regularly drove it! So I snapped a photo while topping off the cold tires this morning. Mostly it serves as my partner's daily driver, with her occasionally taking it on weekend trips to trailheads. On rare occasions we'll use it for long distance trips where we don't plan to camp overnight, as per mile it's about half the cost of the Rivian to charge.
I was really hoping I'd hit 200k in it some day, but with the Rivian doing most of our driving these days, that is looking less and less likely.
Classic politician.
More than half of the satellites in space right now were made here in Washington state.
We just had our strongest quarter — maybe ever — for venture capital investment in startups with the space economy as a major driver.
Great to be at the Seattle Space Superiority Summit yesterday. I'm committed to doubling down on our success. That's why I created the Governor's Space Council to ensure we continue to innovate, compete, and move forward as a leader nationwide and worldwide.

For the first time in a while, we have a poll!!
Decide which new RAN location gets posted tomorrow, sorted by state:
20%NY
30%CA
22%WA
28%CO
128 votes • Final resultsFinally near the top of a leaderboard on @RivianRoamer, for this month anyway.
Replying to @spyderms
End results for the full 13 day trip, including time around PHX.
Curious about the 271.7 kWh difference in Energy Added vs Energy used. Per Activity stats I lost about 88kWh to phantom drain, which I assume covers anything while the vehicle is idle (HVAC, DC-to-DC, screens, etc). Is the other 183kWh all Gear Guard then? 🤔
Was a great trip all in all. No major issues, but did have a few scares with the truck not being able to charge in a couple instances (one needed a reboot, one the charge port needed to dry out).
The cost of the trip was roughly equivalent to a plane ticket and car rental+fuel. Not that I was trying to save money by any means, but it's an interesting metric.
Plan to do this again someday, but with my Model 3 and only free L2 charging.
Heading out on a long road trip tomorrow morning to Phoenix. I'll be stopping every day to work from 9-3ish, and sleeping in the truck at night.
This is basically a leisure trip to visit friends. Will be camping with some this coming weekend on the Mogollon Rim, then staying in the PHX area for a week before heading back to WA the next Friday afternoon, driving straight through the weekend, probably the same route I came down.
I've done the AZ-to-WA trip a couple times before in my life; first in 2007 with my BMW 325is (drove 22 hours, no stops except gas); and again in 2014 with my Subaru BRZ. This will be the first time in an EV.

Oh, and @ChadMoran, I did make it to Horseshoe Bend on the way down after all. On the way back up I also checked out the Toadstool Hoodoos, and drove through Zion NP.
Why does @RouteBetter, which is owned by @Rivian, not have pricing data for RAN... 🤔

This may not be a popular take, but it seems like Tesla made the same mistakes with the Roadster as they did with the Cybertruck.
They went completely overboard.
While the Roadster demo was spectacular. It was just a demo and most owners won't get or use the features shown off.
The thrusters dictate so much of the vehicle's design and likely single-handedly delayed the vehicle. The thrusters only provide a one-time, 5 second boost before the tank is depleted. From estimates gathered online, the tank also costs $500 - $2,000 to fill.
Instead of the original sleek design that was already prototyped with 2+2 seating and could be used around town, Tesla designed the vehicle around the thrusters. It's not practical and you have to mount on a windshield wiper if it starts raining.
While the demo was amazing, this isn't the vehicle most people wanted and Tesla likely spent 10s of millions of dollars developing the thruster system instead of focusing on releasing a quad-motor version of the 2017 Roadster on time.
Is this what you wanted in the Roadster?
The first Starship to return to its launch site, Ship 40's journey took it across air, space, and sea. Now that it is vertical alongside three other Starships in a Megabay at Starbase, it will provide first-of-its-kind data on a flown Starship heatshield, Raptor engines, avionics, and more.
Apparently I just missed a @itskyleconner meet and greet 😕
