Its okay for your favorite pokemon gen to have a flaw. They basically all do. Gen 1 - No Post-game Gen 2 - Steep level curve Gen 3 - Gen 4 - Gen 4 Gen 5 - Should have had a third Sawk/Throh Gen 6 - Trevor Gen 7 - Required basic reading Gen 8 - Tree Gen 9- Not enough Briar

I don’t have an intimate understanding of how the pokewalker is important to HGSS because like 99% of people who’ve played the game I bought it second hand and don’t have it… But relying on an accessory to fix major gripes with the game isn’t really a game design win 😭
