The Pittston coal strike in 1989 saw the UMWA organize to defeat an incumbent delegate by write in. The delegate’s father ruled against the union so it organized the write in against the son.
Jackie Stump went on to serve in the house of delegates until 2005
It is a week to Election Day in the United States and Jason is in a foreign country
Incredible to visit Israel last week & pray at the Western Wall. Anyone of ANY faith can pray at the Western Wall, the holiest site in Judaism. Prior to the 1967 Six Day War access was restricted while now anyone of any faith can visit. As a Christian, I’m grateful that the IDF protects some of Christianity’s holiest sites, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of Christ’s crucifixion and Resurrection. Look forward to posting this week photos from the journey.
But like I’m sorry republicans sprinting to the most blood red county to judge shop has ZERO to do with the fact it’s rural.
If Henrico were still republican they would’ve gone there.
Grow up, Bruce.

Senator Collins, I think you are a little out of touch. This is about a cord of wood — and about Mainers struggling to afford to heat their homes this winter.
I know what it’s like to run out of fuel. I’ve lived that struggle.
That’s the experience I’ll take to the U.S. Senate. And I’ll use it to fight for working people.

Every Texas bar has that one guy.
He’s loud. He’s obnoxious. He makes all the women feel uncomfortable. He adds his drink to your tab when you’re not looking.
That’s Ken Paxton — and I don’t know about y’all, but I’m done picking up his tab.

For 18 months, I've traveled this state and looked you in the eye. Darline Graham has looked down at a script, written by Washington insiders trying to buy this seat.
Ok, one last time: I'm Dr. Annie Andrews and I approve this message.

🚨The 2025-2026 political cycle just became the most expensive cycle ever!
With 8 days to go, it's seen $11.21B in total ad spending and reservations.
The 2023-2024 cycle, complete with its $3.2B Presidential race, saw $11.20B.

State GOP leaders have not said if they plan to have a special session. But Democrats are already preparing for one. mrf.lu/2XtGW

I’m betting if he went to low-income communities and phrased it as “we want to ban this food and it will cost this many of your tax dollars to enforce it” they would slam the door.
Jose Andres says we can’t ban foie gras because we need to solve ICE, global hunger, and ‘so many other issues’ before we can worry about animals.
It reminds me of when I collected signatures in Chicago to preserve the city’s foie gras ban.
In wealthy parts of town, high-minded liberals would chide me: 'You’re collecting signatures for ducks? People are getting shot in this city. You should be ashamed.’
When I went to the poor parts of town — the places where people were actually getting shot — no one said that.
Instead, when I explained how foie gras was made, the near-uniform reaction was: ‘They do that to a bird just so some rich asshole can eat foie gras? That’s f’d up.’ Almost everyone signed.
For political elites, banning animal cruelty is a distraction from the Big Serious issues they’re focused on.
For most people, it’s just common sense.

I don’t think it’s discussed enough how much the modern Texas GOP (and really the national GOP) is a child of the 1980s California Republican Party. In Texas, it’s even more interesting because that shift is the direct result of the modern mass migration to the state in the 80s
Replying to @lmcgaughy
As most all the politicians here bash California, I just noticed this big California pendant has been in the background the whole time.
