That didn't age well.
Eight years ago today the @nytmag published my cover story on school segregation in the great “melting pot” of NYC and the way elite parents and politicians conspire with structural inequality to keep our schools separate and unequal. Eight years later, this sweet baby girl on the cover is getting ready to graduate 8th grade as a bright, empathetic, funny, honor roll student from @uaunison, a non-screened, neighborhood middle school. By test-score metrics many would label this school a failing school, but just as I write in the piece, we judge these schools AND their students without ever stepping foot inside. My daughter is not worth more than any other child. Eight years later, I still know we made the right choice. nytimes.com/2016/06/12/magaz…
The city really needs to contest these estimates. The Central Corridor has been gaining population and South City has tended close to flat population change.
55k people lived in North City as of the last census. Half of those people did not leave between 2020 and the tornado.
New numbers in from the U.S. Census Bureau this month indicating the city of St. Louis has lost 23,000 residents since 2020, and those numbers don’t even cover the unknown loss of residents from last year’s tornado. firstalert4.com/2026/05/18/s…
Projects like this show the misplaced priorities of St Louis' best-funded transit advocacy group. Across the street from this is the Southbound stop. To get to Soulard using crosswalks, riders must walk half of a mile along Gravois, West on Russell, then back East on Russell
Nice to see St. Louis near the top of the list (though we should be number 2 behind Minneapolis because Stadium Station is 40 feet closer than in Chicago and New York but who's counting)
This is the type of project that keeps people from getting involved in trying to make streets safer. After 5 years and over $20 million allocated, we get a project that doesn't come close to adequately addressing the unsafe conditions on Tucker.
The Tucker Cycletrack project is out to bid! This project includes a curb protected bikeway on Tucker between Chouteau and Washington, bus boarding islands, sidewalk and curb ramp improvements on both sides of the street, and safer pedestrian crossings: stlouis-mo.gov/government/de…
The street is too wide with too many lanes for the number of cars that use it. This encourages and allows reckless driving in the middle of downtown.
The proposed plan of 6 travel lanes will continue to allow and encourage reckless driving.
Another weekend waiting on the #70 bus to get where I want to on time only for it to not come. @STLMetro continuing to provide service that can't be relied upon
Replying to @STLMetro
@STLMetro Tonight is the 4th time the bus that was supposed to take me to the @stlCITYsc game did not show. If you're going to advertise for people to rely on you to get to these events, then you need to be reliable.
Maybe if the videos look a little more similar it will be more clear just how similar the RNC and an American Nazi rally from the 1930s are
@stlcsb There are still cars parked in front of no parking signs on Grand south of Magnolia day and night. Could we please get someone to come write some tickets?
This is what the Jefferson Metrolink expansion should be. Full grade separation and automated with headways under 10 minutes
