I've known @eriktorenberg for a very long time and he has been working on various versions of this as long as I've known him. Excited to see this final form of something important from him.
Excited to announce the Cosign Awards: celebrating exceptional people, companies, and products that had a massive impact in 2026. cosign.co/awards Anyone can nominate and vote. Award winners will be chosen by the public in conjunction with a panel of judges, including industry leaders like @lennysan, @packyM, @amasad, and many more. We’ll host an event in December honoring the winners (10 per category). For people categories, we’re mostly focused on everyone except the CEO–everyone else building the company behind the scenes. Companies with the most amount of people nominations will be listed on our “Top Companies to Work For” page. True to form, at Product Hunt I helped launch the Golden Kitty awards a decade ago to recognize great products. Soon after I launched the Rise Awards, honoring executives and ICs building companies that make them. The Cosign Awards is the next iteration. We have 41 categories across people, companies, and products. People categories: - Future Founders - Rising Stars - Engineering - FDE - Product - Design - AI Researchers - Marketing - Comms - Growth - Chief of Staff - Operations - Talent - Finance - Public Intellectuals - Podcaster of the Year - Newsletter Author of the Year - Poster of the Year Company categories: - Rising Stars - Best Place to Work - Founder Mafia - Talent Density - Highest Aura Product categories: - Product of the Year - Launch of the Year - AI Assistant - AI Language Model - AI Coding - Dev Tools - Open Source - Consumer - Productivity - Creative & Media Tools - Product Design & UX - Enterprise B2B - Hardware - Robotics - Self-Driving - Healthcare - Vertical Fintech - Legal

My old S&W model 36 does the same thing.
Five minutes with the iPhone Duo and I’ve already perfected the one-handed flip.

In the long run, AI is going to make software so much more capable, and so much more secure. And reliable. But before that ...

California is losing at least $50 billion a year to fraud, so even under the most optimistic assumptions, the “wealth tax” will only collect enough to pay California’s fraud budget for 7 months.
California's Billionaire Tax Act would collect roughly $30 billion. Accounting for lost income taxes from departures, the mean Net Present Value is negative $39 billion, from Benjamin Jaros and Joshua Rauh nber.org/papers/w35899

🚨 BREAKING: The feds just moved to seize half a city block in Minneapolis, reportedly bought with stolen SNAP money. Per the White House fraud task force, DOJ's new National Fraud Division filed yesterday to take back property that was fraudulently bought with food stamp dollars meant for hungry Minnesotans. Then the speaker turned to the press in the room: "None of your outlets reported it. It took one brave kid and a camera." That learning center was cited hundreds of times, and the legacy media sat on it for years. Nick Shirley did their job for free. Now Trump is taking the money back, one city block at a time.

‘Difficult relationship’: UW task force proposes splitting Allen School from College of Engineering geekwire.com/2026/difficult-… via @GeekWire // my alma mater did this first with biology before I got there and then later with computer science. The university politics and budget gymnastics lose focus on the complexity and bureaucracy this foists on students—the reason these places exist in the first place. It erects walls and barriers in an institution that should be striking these down at every opportunity. In an already excessive administrative burden these splits impact students routinely with dumb stuff that ends up costing the school money in even more administrative overhead. Anyone in business knows there is a fixed excess cost to a "divisional" structure. The cost is in dollars and loss of organizational agility. All in the name of fighting over a zero sum mindset budget. With all going on in universities today (like simply creating a campus environment that is not hostile to ideas) this seems like a big waste of energy.

BREAKING: The Social Security Administration confirms to @FoxNews that it has just undertaken its largest cleanup of Social Security Numbers in the agency's 91-year history, correcting nearly 15% of all U.S. citizen SSNs (roughly 50 million out of 330 million). The changes include: - Adding 17 million dates of death to files that previously didn't have them w/ help from State Dept. - With help from DHS, updating 25 million files that had missing citizenship information. - Correcting an additional 8.5 million records with inaccurate citizenship data. SSNs are referenced by agencies across the federal government and in states to validate identities and prevent improper payment of tax dollars. SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION STATEMENT TO FOX:

Today in 1988, Westlake Center held a grand opening party in Seattle. The four-story, 120,000-square-foot retail pavilion and 21-story office tower became the center of retail in the downtown core. Few blocks tell the story of modern Seattle quite like Westlake. Once a bustling crown jewel, it's now a (nearly empty) transit hub in a City that is currently reinventing itself.

I think I've gotten to the bottom of the issue with the "network effects" discourse. The problem is the shape of a moat is often conflated with the mechanism. And there is remarkably little consensus on what a network effect is, or a flywheel. Here's a very simple, very rough vocabulary that I think works with current working definitions. Seriously, learn these few rules so your boardroom conversation about defensibility isn't a waste of time: Shape of Moat: This is what happens to the advantage as the company scales Static : Doesn't change Sublinear : Advantage compounds but at a diminishing rate as the company scales (this is not a long term durable moat against challengers) Linear: advantage is fixed relative to a competitor as company scales Superlinear : Advantage compounds at an increasing rate as the company scale (this is the white wale everyone pretends they have, but almost no one does) Mechanism of Moat: The property, business process that produces the advantage. Network : more users creates more interaction between users. Hopefully superlinear. Scale : greater volume produces better unit economics. normally sublinear Data-driven : new users means more data for new users (or to get new users). normally sublinear Platform : growth on one side increases value to the other. sublinear to superlinear depending on size Distribution : scale improves reach or channel economics. normally sublinear ... etc. Flywheels: Flywheels are also conflated with the above. The most useful working definition of a flywheel is the aggregate advantage when multiple mechanisms are self reinforcing, something in a chain (A->B->C). Imagine multiple forces pushing a flywheel to make it go faster. The hope is this complex interaction produces a superlinear advantage. They are incredibly hard to reason about. And most discussion around them are based on vibes.

Imagine a flat computing device with a built in stand 🤔
👀 I bought a case for an iPhone I planned to use caseless. Now I’m starting to see why. That built-in stand on Apple’s iPhone Duo Folio case is seriously clever. No extra accessories. Just prop it up and go. This is exactly the kind of practical Apple design I love.
