A lot of brand-new councillors who are going to get quite the shock when their rhetoric crashes into the reality of local government finance and delivery. Good luck to them, and I hope they make good choices.

Reform now have 9 months to deliver what they promised for Lancashire County Council:
- No Council Tax rises.
- No Cuts.
- Zero Council Debt.
- No potholes.
- No officers paid over 100k.
- More money for all.
Why do I get the feeling this is like Brexit promises all over again?

Labour is building the homes that our families in Swindon need - putting the dream of home ownership back in reach. That’s the difference you get with Labour in power.

Sitting on this website makes me feel like I live on another planet.
If someone says "find us 83 votes" at a count, I know 1. They’re making an ironic joke, it’s funny cos you can’t just ‘find’ votes lying around or 2. It’s a (humorous, cos of 1) request to contest spoilt ballots or request a recount, which is a legitimate practice.

This stuff is making me consider doing my dissertation on the use of irony in public life (tho this wasn’t even public life, it was private).
How on earth could someone lift votes from one candidate (in a totally different ward on a totally different ballot!) and gift them to another? There are multiple eyes from every party watching the count as well and a close count like this, would’ve been incredibly closely monitored.
If it comes down to split ballots in a ward where multiple councillors are being elected at once, I can see miscounts happening… but I still can’t see how you purposefully get the counters (independent people) to swap tallies between candidates like that?
