Priscilla finished setting up our Ofrenda for Día de Los Muertos. The hardest part of getting older is slowly seeing more photos of lost loved ones get added every year. This year we lost a cousin and an aunt.
Going through the practice of setting up their photos and favorite foods/items is what we enjoy. It’s mourning through memory. We get to tell our kiddos the stories about them. Even our first dog Carl is there with some of his favorite snacks.
If you’re missing someone today, make a point to say their name today. Spend some time remembering them and how much they meant to you.

I'm an electrician. Last month I replaced a 1950s fuse panel in a farmhouse outside Wooster, Ohio, for the daughter who'd just inherited it.
Her insurance company wouldn't renew with fuses in the house. That's about half my panel work now.
Every circuit was labeled in the same careful pencil except one. A 15-amp fuse had masking tape wrapped across it twice.
Her name was Renee. Her father had died in August. She stood behind me in the cellar with her arms crossed against the cold and told me his one rule about the panel.
"Whatever else you shut off, that one stays in."
He'd only ever said it once, she told me. She was sixteen and had unscrewed that fuse to see what it ran. He came down the stairs, put it back, and taped it. He didn't raise his voice. She remembered the tape better than the words.
I told her the whole house would be dead for the swap. She said she knew. She just wanted that circuit back first.
The co-op pulled the meter at seven. I took the fuse out with the tape still on it and checked behind the socket for a penny or a jumper, because that's the usual reason a fuse gets taped. There was nothing behind it, just a good fuse.
I figured it ran the barn. A stock tank heater, maybe, or the milk house. It's always the barn...

If you want a high IQ wife that will give you high IQ children, you need to ensure she also gets time to have an adult conversation and to have a train of thought sometimes
I'm a firm believer that when two men are talking, the children should never interrupt.
And if they interrupt, the mother of that child should generally be the one to intervene -- not the father.
This is how I was raised, and it's how we'll raise our kids. We're old-school.
I notice, for example, a massive difference when talking to Amish men versus non-Amish men.
Amongst Amish fathers, if a toddler fusses, his wife immediately and reflexively grabs the child and soothes it. The man does not lose his train of thought; he can engage his guest in deep, prolonged conversation that is never "choppy" or broken up.
This is exceedingly refreshing after spending time with so many non-Amish fathers -- who often allow themselves to be interrupted and diverted endlessly by screaming toddlers and so on. The "egalitarian" mentality so many men now espouse can result in conversations of such low quality that business relations and friendships actually suffer (or even fail to form in the first place) because Dad is always mothering the unruly kids.
There are exceptions of course; some old-school Italians, Mexicans, and some Eastern Europeans seem not to have gone for this stuff. But by the by, it seems to me that the conversational ability of fathers has tanked off a cliff ever since modern feministic parenting roles have been mainstreamed.

Here’s what I believe about Islam as a non religious person. Islam has stuff from Christianity & Judaism in it, and Mohammed claims he never read those books. Maybe he was doing mushrooms in the desert idk 🤷♀️ BUT what it seems like to me is he was watching the Franks take over what is now France and convert all the pagans to Christianity so they would accept a king that was given the right to rule by God. He copied that template and made his own religion that was uniquely Arab that he could convert all the Arab pagans to. He executed the same exact play, conquer, convert, rule.
Islam and the Arab world are one of the last things left it’s easy to demonize, because most Americans only know about oil and terrorism.
