50 years ago today, hip-hop was born at a back-to-school jam in the bronx, which grew into a global phenomenon; without it, we'd be nothing. we originally started as rap genius and eventually expanded into other genres, similar to hip-hop, which is heard in every genre worldwide. we want to thank every contributor to the culture, from every lover who believed in it to every hater who fueled those to do it even though they said it would be nothing. happy birthday, #hiphop. #the50th
