Hot off the presses! Beautiful study led by @Yulong68 and @bwdraper, using scRNA-seq to reveal the cellular diversity and structure of the zebrafish ovary. The amount of new information is incredible! It was a joy to see this unfold from the beginning!

Days after proclaiming National Ocean Month, the president continued to roll back vital environmental protections--removing safeguards in the Atlantic’s only marine national monument, recognized for its diverse & vulnerable wildlife and deep-sea habitats: wbur.org/earthwhile/2020/06/…
Siphonophores Apolemia lanosa and Apolemia rubriversa recorded in the Monterey Canyon. From our species description with @caseywdunn @beroe and Phil Pugh. @MBARI_News #apolemia vimeo.com/89195014
Siphonophore hunting. In feeding position tentacles equipped with stinging cells are lowered to form a curtain. Entangled prey gets pulled up to the red feeding bodies. #apolemia
So much well-deserved interest in apolemiid siphonophores these days! Siphonophores feature functionally specialized bodies arranged along the stem of the animal, close-up of Apolemia lanosa. #apolemia

Several siphonophores deploy in a spiral. Most famous is probably the "Galaxy siph" but I'm pretty partial to Apolemia lanosa, which we described with @stsiebert . It looks like how I used to draw cobra snakes when I was a kid.

Check out this beautiful *giant* siphonophore Apolemia recorded on #NingalooCanyons expedition. It seems likely that this specimen is the largest ever recorded, and in strange UFO-like feeding posture. Thanks @Caseywdunn for info @wamuseum @GeoscienceAus @CurtinUni @Scripps_Ocean
