Great to see my former colleague @StribLopez featured on PBS NewsHour election coverage tonight!

As long as Sid was still at the Strib, working hard, I could be one of the kids. I was at the paper for 43 years and left while still a rookie compared with Sir Sidney. I suddenly feel older today. My condolences to Chad, Chris and all who mourn the loss of a legend, @SidHartman

By my calc, in the past four years of Census data, non-college whites - Trump's base - have declined from 47.0% to 44.5% (-2.5%) of the nation's voting age citizens, including:
AZ: 44.9% to 42.0% (-2.9%)

TX: 35.1% to 32.3% (-2.7%)

A nugget of good news that ought not be overlooked in today's budget forecast: MN has had two years of population gains from domestic in-migration, reversing a 15-year trend. #mnleg

The PiPress needs a local rescue, and soon.
The PiPress will cut 6 to 8 jobs company-wide in coming weeks as it seeks volunteers for buyouts. Layoffs likely if they don’t get enough. Our hedge fund owner, Alden Global Capital, has cut staff at a rate more than twice the industry average since 2012: wapo.st/2H4cm7w
Add inflation on the spending side of #mnbudget forecast, and the "surplus" for 2020-21 vanishes, and a $2.6 B deficit appears in 2022-23.
There's little that's particular to MN policy in the new #mnbudget forecast. Declining revenues are attributed to national and demographic trends. mn.gov/mmb-stat/000/az/forec…

The #mnleg's budget-making task gets tougher today with a new forecast for 2020-21 showing a $492 M decline in revenues since the previous forecast in late Nov. Not in the red -- yet -- but a trend that warrants cautious budgeting.
