asked for months to change the copy on one primary button, from "Complete transaction" to "Pay now."
Ticket spillover. endless meetings, never prioritised.
one thursday evening, we convinced stakeholders we could do it ourselves, got codebase access, opened the repo, and changed it.
7 characters, approved with one emoji on slack
that's what our book is about: an attempt at creating a practical toolkit for designers, built from real situations we've faced at work.
Pre-sale closes in a few hours. last chance at 50% off 👇

what a crazy time to be a designer fr:
> i fine tuned my own UI gen model
> created datasets to train models
> built some of the internet’s largest design libraries (ScreenshotsClub & IconsClub)
> built countless scrapers, learned to bypass systems (not recommended)
> went deep into AI, ML, robotics, and utility hardware.
all while doing design full-time all the time
with everything i’ve learned along the way, i’ve tried to create a starting point for designers who wanna explore this side of themselves but don’t know where to begin.
The Craft of Design Engineering is my attempt at that.

FOLKS. THE BOOK IS FINALLY HERE. 😭🔥
We’ve been working on a book about Design Engineering, bridging the gap between designing great interfaces and actually building them.
The first copy is in my hands and I genuinely can’t explain how fucking surreal this feels.
Getting it reviewed by some insanely talented folks right now to make sure we ship something we’re genuinely proud of.
You can pre-order it here → designengineer.pro/book
we’re so fucking back 🫡

Reviewed around 300 portfolios this week and here are some pointers IMO every designer should keep in mind.
> .framer. website and .netlify urls, recieved so many this time. i get it, it's free. but it's also the first thing i read and it's the cheapest fix on this whole list
> navigation isn't obvious. i shouldn't have to hunt for where the work is. if i can't find the second case study i assume there's only one
> password protected case studies with no password, notion pages set to private, 404s. i'm not emailing you for access, i'm closing the tab. sorry but just being honest.
> no resume, or no clear cta for it. not negotiable. someone down the line will ask for it and you don't want that to be an email thread
> still on behance in 2026. making your own site has never been easier, sit with wisprflow and a coffee and you'll have one by evening
> only the final mockups after all the research ? show me the versions before it. the four you killed tell me how you think, the polished one just tells me you know figma
> flexing that you vibe code. nobody is hiring the tool. sell the output, figma or code or whatever got you there, genuinely doesn't matter
> AI slop in the work. biggest red flag of the lot. we're hiring you for taste, claude doesn't have any. everyone else can ship slop, a designer can't.
none of this is a rejection reason on its own at least not when i am reviewing. in fact most of the people i shortlisted this time are on free subdomains. its just their work just made me stop noticing. but that's the deal you're taking. either the work is strong enough to cover for all of this, or you spend one evening and don't need it to be.

they say 3 months can change you a lot
and it's been 3 years since @prthmo and I last spoke on camera
we got into:
– why we changed our portfolios (and how often you actually should)
– sales-y vs flashy sites, sales-y vs brand-heavy positioning
– tools we're obsessed with rn (agentation, dialkit, edits, dji mic, raycast)
– twitter pfp psychology, why you should never change it
– sf lessons, in-office vs remote, working while traveling
- risk, runway, and dealing with uncertainty as a freelancer
- freelancing models, content as distribution, what's next for both of us
- podcast format ideas going forward
