After running 143 consecutive marathons (42km/26 mi) in 143 days on 1 leg, Terry Fox ended his Marathon of Hope raising $ for cancer research - when cancer had moved to his lungs. He died June 28 of the next year at the age of 22. In his name over $1 billion has now been raised.
