🆘🆘 BILLY JR (ID 259766), 3 YO, MALE– IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as an aco - owner surrender on 7/15/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance - owner elderly. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿 ➡️TBD 10/1/26 ➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST ➡️ 🆘🆘 3RD Chance on Emergency Placement List – NO ROOM IN SHELTER – WILL NOT BE GIVEN MUCH MORE TIME – VERY HIGH EU/SILENT KILL RISK– 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱 ➡️ 77 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT ➡️ BILLY JR IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS -He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 A volunteer writes: Billy Jr is a very shy cat who hides from strangers and will warm up when he gets to know the person...You can imagine what being relinquished into a shelter environment can do to that kind of cat...Just look at Billy Jr's photo. A beautiful ginger cramped at the back of his hiding box, softly hissing and grumbling when his door is open. Billy Jr came with Oreo with whom he got along well. He might very well be the father of the five little ones she delivered at the care center. Billy Jr's owner told us that he liked feather and catnip toys and for the first time, yesterday, I saw a spark in his eyes when I waved a feather wand in front of him. No hiss, no grumble and he even touched the feather. Billy Jr was found to be FIV+ on a SNAP test. FIV+ can cats can live a very normal and long life and coexist with non FIV+ cats. We hope that Billy Jr will show further improvement during his stay with us but a caring, patient and understanding new owner is what he truly needs to be a happy pet. Her self-mutilating behaviors were pre-existing before she came into the shelter and have continued through her initial tail amputation that occurred while still with her previous owner, as well as the revision while in shelter care. Her behavior concern points to a likely neurological pathology that will require a neurological workup, consultation with a behavior certified vet, as well as a multimodal approach (anxiolytic/psychotropic & pain meds, behavior mod., and environmental alteration) to manage her likely compulsive self-mutilation. Should no pathologies be identified, further behavioral workups should also be sought out. She will require an experienced adopter/rescue group capable of managing daily care and diagnostics to ensure that Sabby's condition and self-mutilation be controlled to manage further trauma. This evaluation/diagnosis means that SABBY will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 Sabby is a sweet cat that allows all petting and handling - but she appears to have a medical/compulsive self-directed behavior that is persistent and not manageable in a shelter setting. 🆘🆘 PAPA (ID 260492), 6 YO, MALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as an owner surrender on 8/4/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿 ➡️TBD 9/19/26 ➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST 🆘🆘 7th Chance on Emergency Placement List – ON BORROWED TIME – SHELTER AT CAPACITY- NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT/HELP PAPA - HIGHEST EU/SILENT KILL RISK –🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱 ➡️ 45 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT ➡️ PAPA IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 What my friends at ACC say about me: Papa is known to be independent and likes to be where the people are in a home environment but is very fearful and stressed in the shelter and does not currently tolerate touch. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Papa is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because his previous owner reports he enjoys being in rooms where the people are, independent and gives kisses when comfortable in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment.
