Smokers Paradise by @TaborRobak is a prestigious NFT art collection AND another contemporary art masterpiece.
The more I study this project, the more I see how carefully constructed and multi-layered it is. The devil is in the details... and the depth beyond the surface exists in the juxtaposition of parallel dimensions, reflecting Tabor's remarkable ability to adapt and compress "data" into a universal language.
Think of Rauschenberg's Erased de Kooning Drawing (1953). Tabor takes iconic copyrighted anime posters and covers them with digitally rendered glass fruit and heavy impasto-like gestural painting. The original imagery is partly erased, as a symbolic intervention into the tradition of cultural exchange between East and West... Like Hokusai to Van Gogh, but in our post-internet body of work.
Closer to our time, there's the obvious Burnt Banksy NFT (2021) parallel. Physical vs. digital, originality and scarcity. Except here, the collector makes the irreversible choice: one unique artwork exists either as a physical print or an Ethereum NFT. Never both.
And with the NFT comes something more: part of this artwork can only be experienced through Web3, NFTs and onchain interactions... resulting in a handmade intervention by Tabor into the collector's Human Resources NFT. An existing artwork becomes part of another artwork's history through provenance... Community participation, provenance and scarcity become artistic materials.
Add the dialogue between Japanese anime, Western art history, consumer culture, CGI and AI-assisted image-making. Look at the brushwork and details, how naturally the digital tools make these works feel like some weird form of futuristic painting, twisted into the mystery of what it means to paint in the extended field of painting. Heavy impasto is a suggestion of this... and with digital art, the concepts of "brush" and "paint" can lead to something unexpected.
Tabor isn't simply making images and selling them as NFTs or prints. He's applying the logic of contemporary art to the structures of NFT culture itself. The collecting mechanism isn't separate from the artwork. It's part of the artwork. And that, to me, is what makes Smokers Paradise much more than a collection of 100 images.
Best of both worlds... Collected physical 🍓and #002 Akira?

For years I've had this Dragon Ball Z poster up in my studio (picture from @verse_works interview 2024) and one day I noticed that Goku's hair and the bananas in a glass fruit bowl look the same. That was the start of this project.
Smokers Paradise No. 042, 60 × 90 cm, 2026.
Digital: a token on Ethereum with the full master file, 7087 × 10630 px (75 MP), plus a cigarette added by hand to your Human Resources PFP.
You choose one form, the other is never made.
Two upcoming projects that feel like a return to my original inspirations. Excited to share more soon.

A new phase for @solos_gallery
Solos is dedicated to presenting works by artists we believe have the potential to shape art history. We look out for three main things:
• Does the artist have world-class qualities
• Are they committed to a lifetime of making
• Do they carefully consider their output
So far - among many others - we’ve released:
• William Mapan, Sketchbooks A & B
• Harm van den Dorpel, Quantizer, SFP
• Gysin & Vanetti, Wayfinder
• Tabor Robak, Human Resources
• Petra Cortright, Burnt Umber
• Tyler Hobbs, From Noise
• Laurie Simmons, Autofiction: My Collaborator
• Botto, Algorithmic Evolution
• shl0ms, Security
Focus is everything for a gallery programme. And while I’m proud of what we’ve released so far, we will be increasing our focus even more going forwards.
We will likely have only two more releases in 2026 - one in October, and one in December.
I can’t wait to show you what we have in store.

So grateful for the HR community. Thank you all so much for the support.
I've had to spend more time on some of my other projects lately, but there is more in store for HR. More updates today!
So happy to be sharing Human Resources at Basel Social Club, and for the first time, offer an opportunity to acquire a physical artwork from the Tabcorp Treasury, courtesy of @Danae__io

I explored multiple ways of producing photographic imagery for this. The main attractions are printed on Dibond and custom-framed here in Paris. They have also been remastered with a newly rendered level of 8k detail.
I contrasted these by printing a selection of PFPs onto Polaroid film, which makes them feel even more real.
