Pasadena lost a legend yesterday. My family lost a member. I lost a close personal friend and hero. #RIPSnottyScotty dropbox.com/sh/octxhdgyli8tm…

Vin Scully liked telling the one about a young Whitey Herzog betting Paige a bottle of bourbon that he couldn't paint the exact spot Herzog picked out with a called third strike. Paige won the bet without much trouble. Years later Scully still called Herzog Wild Child whenever their paths crossed, a nickname straight out of that bet, the kind of detail that only sticks around because people who actually shared a clubhouse with Paige swore his control was that good.

I saw this fly over from the roof deck at the @twitter office
The Space Shuttle Endeavour mounted on top of a NASA Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft as it flies over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on September 21, 2012... On September 21, 2012, Space Shuttle Endeavour completed its final journey, soaring across iconic landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge before heading to its permanent home in Los Angeles. Over the course of its retirement tour, Endeavour flew low over cities across California, giving millions of people one last chance to witness a space shuttle in the skies. Endeavour had a storied history: it was built in the wake of the Challenger disaster and completed 25 missions between 1992 and 2011, including servicing the Hubble Space Telescope and helping construct the International Space Station. Its retirement marked the end of NASA’s shuttle program, which had run for three decades. Today, Endeavour is housed at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, where it’s displayed to inspire future generations. A new exhibit is being constructed to show the shuttle in a full “ready-to-launch” vertical stack, complete with external tank and boosters, the only one of its kind in the world. During its final flyover, traffic stopped on the Golden Gate Bridge as drivers pulled over to watch Endeavour pass overhead. #archaeohistories

Mom with the baby in the holder went to get food at the concession stand while dad stayed back and watched the game. Not only that, dad didn’t even let her get settle before he started to eat. I’m also convinced he was probably about to start complaining about how his food is cold before the video ended lol. The announcers knew the assignment!!!!

Gibson off Eckersley in 1988, and the detail that makes it is how narrow the window was. It was his only plate appearance of the entire World Series. He could barely run. The count got to three and two, and Eckersley threw the backdoor slider rather than the fastball, which is the pitch Gibson had been told to look for in that situation. Then he hit it out on one leg and hobbled around the bases. Game 1, not a clincher, and it still worked like a knockout punch for the rest of the series. One swing from a man who had no business taking one, in the opening game of a series nobody expected Los Angeles to be in.

Yamamoto Yoshinobu.
Jack Morris threw all ten innings of a shutout in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series and Madison Bumgarner closed out Game 7 in 2014 on two days rest out of the bullpen. Both are the gold standard for finishing the job.
