I'm Taher. By day, I work on content at Supergrow. On weekends, I build and run TradeWithWorld.com Pick a trade route and a product, and it shows the HS code, duties and documents you'll need. Here's what to expect from this account 🧵

Brokers, add this to your 2027 calendar: $190.88 for each customs permit you hold, due by 29 January 2027. The fee rises each year with inflation, and CBP confirmed it in a notice published on 27 October. tradewithworld.com/resources…

The fee is charged per permit, not per firm, so a brokerage holding several permits pays it several times. It is worth adding the total to next year's budget now, so the January deadline does not catch you out.

The US says wind turbine imports threaten its national security, yet it has not added a new tariff. A proclamation signed on 22 October instead tells the Commerce Department and the US trade office to negotiate with trading partners. tradewithworld.com/resources…

They must report back within 180 days, and the President says other measures may follow depending on the talks. If you supply parts to the US wind market, check whether they already pay the US steel, aluminium or copper tariffs, since those still apply.

Jio IPO is the hottest thing today. Sun remains the second.

Cooking oil is cheaper to import into India. Since 24 September, crude sunflower oil has no basic duty, and crude soybean and palm oil pay 5% instead of 10%. Refined oil rates were cut too, so the gap stays the same. tradewithworld.com/resources…

Basic customs duty is only one part of what you pay at the border, and other charges were not changed by this notification. If you import or refine these oils, work out your full landed cost again with your customs broker before you price your next order.

Good news for small Indian exporters. You no longer need an RCMC, the export promotion council registration, for shipments worth up to Rs 3 lakh FOB. DGFT made the change on 15 September to encourage small exports, especially by post, courier and other new channels.

The limit applies to each shipment separately. A shipment above Rs 3 lakh still needs a valid RCMC wherever the rules ask for one. So if some of your orders go over the limit, keep your RCMC up to date. All your other export requirements stay in place. tradewithworld.com/resources…

Since 8 September, Canada has charged a surtax of 15%, 25% or 50% on certain goods from the US. Goods entered under Chapters 98 and 99, the special classification chapters, have mostly been exempt. On 23 October, the CBSA changed the wording of that exemption.

They now pay the surtax only if their Chapter 98 or 99 item is in Schedule 4 and the goods also fall under Schedules 1, 2 or 3. No start date is given. If you or your broker use these chapters for US goods, check both lists, and ask the CBSA if unsure. tradewithworld.com/resources…

Importing from Canada into the US? Check your product codes before Friday, because the list of goods paying the extra 50% duty is changing. From 30 October, 100 more product codes will pay it, including sweetened cocoa powder and many floor coverings.

At the same time, 22 codes come off the list, including corrugated boxes and thin plywood sheets. Goods leaving the list lose only this 50% duty, so other US duties may still apply. Canadian suppliers should check their codes too. tradewithworld.com/resources…

USTR has proposed extending the suspension of its Section 301 action on China's maritime and shipbuilding sectors to 9 January 2027. This is a proposal only; public comments are due by 30 October 2026. tradewithworld.com/resources…

China will control exports of tunnel boring machines, certain walking excavators and high-altitude wet shotcrete machines, with their parts and technology, from 18 Nov 2026 (MOFCOM/GACC Announcement No. 50). Who needs a licence and what to check: tradewithworld.com/resources…
