45 minutes from Gilman to Science Park? On a Monday afternoon? And website says no delays at all? @MBTA I literally could have walked faster if I hadn't had surgery recently. What's the deal?

Yes. Go to your local pub with your friends, get some beers, drink them, have fun. Do the same but now replace the next table with a sedan that's idling.

Can't recommend Smadny Mnich ("Thirsty Monk") highly enough as an apres beverage

Years and years ago (spring of '99), on the Slovakian side, a town called Vysna Boca. Fairly small hill but lots of random off-piste terrain, beautiful little place in the mountains, buddy and I spent <$100 total for 9 days of skiing/lodging/food/beer.

Ugh, glad you're okay -- I've been there and know it's a terrifying experience. So so sorry, Matan

I have no idea why anyone's name needed to be in that email. I've done a lot of tech stuff in my life, writing "it's going worse than we thought, sorry" and moving on never involves a bus.

Yo @AppMtnClub , having your new VP Eng send an intro email to the entire volunteer list announcing the firing of a project manager (and implicitly blaming the failure of a project on her) seems like a weird choice....

My takeaway from this thread is that there are people who listen to Ezra (or any podcast) at less than 1.5x - an obvious a sign of insanity.

The ROI would beat basically any other check they've written recently....

As for outreach, the short answer is we don't do enough. BUDA's starting to put together a real marketing strategy for the first time, and this is one of the focuses of that effort.

Around 2014 I ran an analysis going back through the entire league database (going back to 1998ish), and the number hadn't changed meaningfully. It was something like 33% FMP in 2002, 35% in 2014, IIRC.

Makes me think that there may simply be a population size issue.

These numbers are from 8 years ago, but this report from Harvard School of Public Health says that adult men play sports at roughly twice the rate of women (35% to 16%): media.npr.org/documents/2015…

FWIW Boston -- which has a huge college pipeline and a very strong bias towards Mixed ultimate, has historically had roughly the same registration ratio for our leagues (varying between 30-40% FMP registration, depending on specific league).

A great question!
How do you all recruit brand new FMP to leagues in your area? Looking to hear from areas that are lacking in a local college pipeline. If Hawai'i leagues have 110 people sign up, it's usually around 80-30 men to women. Advertising? Hope for the best? Work with other local sports?
