the interview isn't over until you've asked two things: "what do next steps look like?" "cool if i follow up in 48 hours?" almost everyone says yes. now you have permission, not a guessing game. same day: connect on linkedin with a personal thank you.

software dev job postings: up 21% from a year ago. all jobs: up 3%. still 22% below feb 2020 though. tech is thawing. it's not 2021. set alerts, apply early, message the hiring manager. i break these numbers down weekly: taylor.sites.tab.bot/?utm_so…

what an ai assistant does in my week: - tracks layoffs so i know who just got cut - checks my linkedin dms twice a day so nobody's left on read - emails me market stats to approve before they post i still approve everything. job seekers: steal the dm checker first.

Raleigh, thank you. Local engineers and tech pros filled the room last Sunday, swapping ideas and making new connections over the kind of conversations that don’t happen on a schedule. Missed it? Join us at the next one: luma.com/torcdotdev #TechCommunity #Raleigh

your resume needs to be boring. no colors. no fonts. no headshot. no graphics. the unique part should be how well it's written, because most resumes are written badly. want color? build a portfolio site. keep the resume readable.

devops was the only big ops skill whose demand share dipped this month. 9,487 postings over the 90 days ending oct 15, share of postings down 0.9% vs the prior 4 weeks (per skillenai's job postings index, multi-country sample). the demand didn't vanish. it's folding into "software engineer" roles that expect ci/cd and kubernetes by default. so if your title is devops engineer, reposition: you're the engineer who owns the pipeline. take one app and show the whole path. commit > test > build > deploy > rollback, with timings. owning the full path beats listing tools every time.

someone wrote up how i network and nailed it in one line: networking is just making friends in your industry. ai can draft your outreach. it can't make friends for you. same people, every day, out loud.

it's wednesday. post one thing you shipped this week. "here's what i did and how it moved the needle." hate bragging? that's why it's a weekly habit, not a one off. people see your work, and you walk into interviews with the stories already written.

stop asking ai "should i apply?" paste the post and ask: "based on my target role profile, does this role fit what i'm looking for? score it 1–10, tell me why, and flag anything that's a yellow flag." it's a test suite for job offers.

"tell me about yourself" is not a 3 minute answer. it's 45 seconds. your career high points, tied to your resume summary. then: "anything i didn't answer you'd want to know?" rehearse it into your phone until it's clean. nobody wings this well.

python is the quiet riser right now. 73,868 job postings mention it over the 90 days ending oct 17, and its demand share is up 2.6% vs the prior 4 weeks. the strongest move among the big general-purpose skills this month (per skillenai's job postings index, a multi-country sample). it almost never shows up alone: sql, aws, ci/cd, java and kubernetes ride along. so don't just list python on the resume. ship one small tool that does something real. a script that cleans a messy csv or hits an api. tests, a readme with the before/after, repo link, 3-line build note. use claude or chatgpt to write the tests and the readme. nobody's grading who typed it. they're grading that it runs.
