Happy New Year, Node.js builders! 🎉 On this January 1, 2026, I'm releasing Vajra — my gift to the indie community and a reminder that performance doesn't have to be sacrificed for usability. Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come not to bury Express, but to say we don't bury performance at the altar of usability. ⚡

I submitted my buyout resignation to Microsoft today. They rejected it. Not because I’m so valuable. But because I don’t work at Microsoft.
BREAKING: Microsoft, $MSFT, is offering buyouts to 60,000 workers as part of the company’s efforts to cut costs amid AI adoption, per Bloomberg. Personnel on select teams in the US, Canada, India, and the UK at a vice president level and below will be eligible. This reflects ~27% of Microsoft's total workforce.

Non Hindus sporting religious markers and who do not subscribe their reverence to the deity concerned cannot be permitted to step into any part of an Agamic temple premises not just beyond the flag pole, rule Justices G.R. Swaminathan and P. Murugan of #MadrasHighCourt If such entry is permitted without them signing an undertaking, it would defile the sanctity of the temple concerned, they add. Judges: "We notice in recent times that there are egregious breaches. Mr.Badrudeen Mustafa, an MLA representing the Madurai Central Constituency where the famed Meenakshi temple is located, went inside the temple premises soon after his election. He claimed that he had a right to inspect if proper amenities are being provided. He also went up the temple towers on the occasion of Kumbabishekam. It is ironical that the said MLA proclaimed that Sanatana Dharma ought to eradicated. "We take judicial notice of the fact that a Hon'ble Minister who is a Christian by faith, entered Thiruchendur temple without giving the undertaking required from Non-Hindus. We have the illustrious instance of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Shri Joseph Vijay who worshipped Goddess Meenakshi after signing the undertaking. The Hon'ble Chief Minister who is a Christian by faith was not asked to convert to Hinduism. He was only requested to affirm his reverence for the deity. This is what we call as an inclusive approach. "We recall instances from the holy life of Kanchi Maha Periyava. When some foreigners and persons belonging to other faiths would express their desire to embrace Hinduism, he not only discouraged them but called upon them to show greater fidelity to their faith. When Justice Ismail of the Madras High Court used to visit him, Periyava respected the great judge's sentiments by giving him sandal wood paste instead of Viboothi. "Chamchagiri is endemic to our political culture. The party The party workers as a mark of sycophancy hang around their leader. They tend to make a bee-line for him. Whether the occasion is appropriate is beside the point. A jocular instance comes to our mind. A well known Minister was having a good time in a spa. Somehow word spread around. Soon, a good number of Chamchas obsequiously entered the spa and offered their pranams. Much to the acute embarrassment of the Neta. One can imagine how the party workers would conduct themselves when they come to know that their leader, be he an MLA or Minister, is to visit their local temple. Out of sheer enthusiasm, they will follow suit without bothering if they can enter the premises or not. We take judicial notice of a video doing rounds in the social media of persons wearing skull caps, pushing their way through in Thiruvannamali Arunachaleswarar temple, notwithstanding the vigorous protests of the devotees. The HR&CE staff stood as mute spectators. "Not only Chamchagiri but also optics matters in a democracy. We know of one political leader, who is a fundamentalist subscribing to a non-Hindu faith. But he would make it a point to visit the temple and also prominently display the religious mark on his forehead. This was to play to the gallery. The vote value of such a display, is obvious. We hold that usages and customs of temple cannot kneel down before such display of Chamchagiri and optics." Thangam Venkatesh versus State of Tamil Nadu (WP MD 30452/26)

He’s an authority and I’m Spider-Man.
He is an extremely famous telugu pravachana kartha. He is considered as an authority on puranas. He says clearly that stag and deer were hunted and their meat was eaten during van-vaas. 'You may ask how can Lord Ram eat meat. But he was a kshatriya. Kshatriya dharma does involve hunting and meat eating'- what he says.

So, what’ll MSFT bhaiyas and didis do in their YouTube channels now? I can’t call this schadenfreude for obvious reasons, but the cat is curious at times.

No static builds. Most dependencies are brought in as shared libraries for other products, and I guess we are ending up with about a 60k binary. And for node, it is always platform with Vajra, our zero dependency high performance server. 😎😎

"Elect a clown and you get a circus," they say. What happens when you elect an entire circus? This is probably a time where the D stock gloats about all this, but their track record isn't any great either. They should shut their gob.

Last I remember, Poland is also part of the EU, and they took an entirely different stand. 'Liberal' regimes across the European Union chose to take to a path of destruction that they assumed is a holy high horse to ride-on. Not to mention that it would also put them a couple of inches higher in standing compared to the regressive conservatives. Now, the rest of the population is paying the price for it. Well done.

One of the common problems I have seen over the last 7 years specifically has been how the EM role has no clear indication of which size fits best where. In a lot of places, there is also a lack of clarity in terms of what they want to prioritize from the perspective of value unlocks. Entities that do not have structural stability and have always been hacking together to a quick GTM need somebody who can bring in processes and bring stability, focusing about 70% of their bandwidth towards that. 30% is split between coding hands-on and managing and grooming the team up, or coding and the architectural decisions, as it were, depending on how mature the product is. The outcome of this entire mix-up is that good-quality talent generally is left in the lurch, figuring their way out when they enter a system. Most of their energy is spent spreading it out too thin between all of these and maybe one/some of it, while the focus for the business has been elsewhere. Unfortunate as it is, a counterpoint to this could also be that "the point of an engineering manager is to figure this part out," which begs the question of how amenable are systems to tweak or replace existing practices where lived experience shows the right direction ahead as different from what's in vogue.
