The Zimbabwe Electric Vehicle Association (ZEVA) launched in Harare today. It brings EV dealers, e-bike operators, charging companies, battery specialists and Zimpost under one roof. Competitors like BYD, Beyond Mobility and Satewave are now working together on where chargers go, one national charging standard, battery quality on imported cars and training EV technicians.
It just happens that phone makers love big megapixel numbers but yet many 50MP and 200MP phones save 12MP photos by default. And you might think that’s a flaw but not really. It is a clever feature called pixel binning which means the phone combines tiny pixels into bigger ones that catch more light, giving you clearer, brighter pictures. Power, not talent, is what is holding back Zimbabwe’s data centre industry, says Vijay Kumar Bahl, CEO of Varun Beverages Zimbabwe. His group believes it has a solution.
Varun’s parent, RJ Corp, has partnered with India’s INOX to construct a 500 MW solar project. Bahl has invited technology companies to build data centres and offered 20 year solar power agreements backed by government. Others are also pursuing the same model. Econet’s InfraCo plans a 300 hectare industrial park near Robert Mugabe International Airport, anchored by a large data centre and a phased 100 MW solar plant. New regulations allowing private companies to distribute and sell electricity could unlock such arrangements. The opportunity is substantial. The company that solves energy may help build the country’s data centre industry.
