Today, both national leaders and many public figures expressed their condolences to Ukraine. But it is also important that America not remain silent about the killings that continue unabated. Of course, we are doing everything possible to ensure that the humanitarian operation in Oleshky succeeds, and Ukrainian forces are maintaining the ceasefire. And humanitarian aspects must be felt not just in one particular section of the front. We must act and turn the situation around so that Russia moves toward de-escalation and so that this applies to our entire country, not just Oleshky.

Today, Russia hit the railway station in Dnipro. People were standing on the platform. Many dead and wounded. Among them are children. Medics continue to fight for human lives.
Russia deliberately hits passenger transport and places where civilians gather - stations, markets, supermarkets, squares, churches, and schools.
Russia is waging a war against civilians. You never know who will be the next.

A Russian strike on the municipal veterinary and sterilization center Krok do Tvaryn killed one dog and injured three cats and another dog.
Three shelter employees were also injured. The shelter asked Chernihiv residents to temporarily foster animals while repairs are underway. By the end of the day, locals had taken 101 cats and dogs into their homes and helped clean up the site.

"Within days, Russian soldiers poisoned their dog, an Alabai, along with all the other large dogs in Oleshky. They killed Liudmilaβs nextdoor neighbor and raped his wife. A local butcher disappeared; no one knew whether he was also killed. Some neighbors were detained and beaten. Armed, masked soldiers searched Liudmilaβs home three times, confiscating the coupleβs Ukrainian passports and leaving them with no documents. And yet, Liudmila and Andriy stayed. Dnipro. Russia deliberately directed a jet-powered Shahed drone at a platform with a train and passengers. Of course, Russian generals will report that βall targets have been hitβ. But this will only confirm that their target is every Ukrainian. From soldiers on the front line to children in cities and villages far from the front.
Russian strikes can be effectively countered. To do this, Ukraine needs missiles and resources for its own air defence systems. They are needed right here and now.
Today, this will save Ukrainian lives, and tomorrow, it will make air defence across Europe more effective.

unlawful deportation or transfer is a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions (Article 147). it's also a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Article 8(2)(a)(vii) and 8(2)(b)(viii), it's a crime against humanity: under Rome Statute Article 7(1)(d), deportation or forcible transfer counts as one when it's part of a widespread or systematic attack on civilians, Fourth Geneva Convention, Article 49: an occupying power may not forcibly transfer or deport protected civilians from occupied territory to its own territory, "regardless of their motive."
"forcible" doesn't only mean at gunpoint. moving people under coercion counts too, for example when α΅£ussia is the only way out of a siege.

Russian forces have begun taking civilians from occupied Oleshky to Russia, apparently disregarding previously announced agreements governing the operation.
The operations are being conducted by the Russian military, without American representatives or teams from either sideβs ombudsman office present. Russiaβs state news agency TASS is openly filming the operation.
There is no indication that civilians are being given a choice of where they wish to go. No buses or other vehicles designated to transport evacuees to Ukrainian-controlled territory are visible.
The operation raises serious concerns that Russia is once again exploiting a humanitarian evacuation to forcibly transfer Ukrainian civilians.
The parallels with the evacuation of Mariupolβs Azovstal steel plant are disturbing. Once again, Moscow appears to be disregarding agreed procedures while controlling the fate of Ukrainian civilians.
