Last night I received a DM that stayed with me. A final year undergrad. Newly appointed CTO. Sole technical person in the company. And quietly carrying a lot of doubt. They wrote about feeling out of depth. About worrying they are not worthy of the title. About seeing smarter engineers out there and wondering if they will mess this up. What I told them was simple. Start small. Build one thing that works. Set up basic systems. Create clarity instead of chasing perfection. If you are leading a team, focus on helping others own their work. Review, guide, support, repeat. That loop compounds faster than any individual brilliance. Being a good CTO is not about knowing everything. It is about learning faster than yesterday. It is about taking responsibility when things break. It is about staying calm when everyone else panics. Imposter syndrome does not mean you are failing. It often means you care deeply about doing the job right. And that already puts you ahead of most people.
