DC just put the entire Absolute Green Lantern power chart on screen at the Absolute Universe panel at New York Comic Con.
Four colors, three ranks each. Red is self-restraint. Green is correct action. Yellow is total understanding. Black is pure will.
Look at the green slide. The middle rank is called Abin, and its powers are picking who gets the ring and controlling the Lantern. That's exactly what Abin Sur did in issue one. His name was his job title the whole time.

My goat Grant Morrison has shared their current opinion on LANTERNS after judging it too harshly after 1 episode:
"Lanterns. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are great. I didn't like the Hannibal Lecter-style Sinestro, but aside from that, the series has improved a lot and the approach worked, so kudos to them. Otherwise, I've come to love the more nuanced Hal Jordan that Kyle Chandler is delivering, while Pierre's John Stewart has developed impressively as a character, with each episode freeing him from his rigid shell, as Hal's routine of being a reckless drunk turns out to be a useful smokescreen strategy. I'll watch to the end, but it's probably not worth having more opinions on the series until then. So, shove this where the sun doesn't shine, clickbait creators!"

There was a time crunch, but it was never intended to be six issues. It was always three issues, to conclude in issue #50.
Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight
Originally intended to be at least six issues, writer Ron Marz was forced on a time crunch to deliver Hal Jordan’s infamous heel turn. Back then there was no evil space bug possession. The iconic hero was just simply… broken.

A little two issue interstitial arc starts in issue 20 of GLC. This will lead directly into a crossover between the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps books first teased at SDCC this year. Think of these two issues like a prologue. – at Boise, ID
