Seems neither “progressive” nor “conservative” to remove a user fee that has no major impact on affordability/access and costs the government (who has seemed very concerned about spending throughout the pandemic) $1.1 Billion to do it.
Great news, Ontario! We’re eliminating licence plate renewal fees and stickers on March 13th for passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, motorcycles & mopeds. Plus, we will be refunding millions of drivers for fees paid since March 2020.

Meaningfully invest in hospital capacity? Too expensive. Meaningless car sticker rebate? Absolutely.

Cowards.
#BREAKING: Ontario will NOT mandate vaccines for healthcare workers, citing high vax rates & staffing concerns. "Having looked at the evidence, our govt has decided to maintain its flexible approach by leaving human resourcing decisions up to individual hospitals" - Premier Ford

Imagine if they said “And it’d allow would-be doctors to bypass the med-school gauntlet of intimidation & reeducation” American policy discourse on education is really In its own world.
Ending teacher licensure would enable school leaders to recruit & more fully leverage all available talent. And it’d allow would-be teachers to bypass the ed-school gauntlet of intimidation & reeducation. These are good things. At ⁦@NRO⁩. nationalreview.com/magazine/…

Yeah…we’re doomed.
This quoted post is unavailable.
This seems entirely unnecessary.
The Ontario government has told the Star it will take a different approach than other provinces in developing its mobile app for COVID-19 vaccine certification, opting to build the program in house instead of contracting it out to a tech company. torstar.co/Fy3b50G5JrR

So they did it 40 days faster than I said they would. I guess that’s progress…?
At every stage of this pandemic this government have made the wrong decision…without fail. Absolutely zero foresight. I give it 60 days before case rates are very high again and they are forced to do this like the rest of the (rational) world.

Health Min @celliottability rejects push for vaccine passports, says people can get proof of vax after second shot for employers or anyone else who wants to see it. Suggests a vaxx passport smartcard could be prone to fraud. Also says no to mandatory vaxx for health care workers.

This is a very bad mistake.
Ontario Solicitor General makes it clear: The Ford government won’t impose (her word) a proof of vaccination card on residents. She says the vaccine receipt you received after your shots should be sufficient. #onpoli

One of the most unique things about Americans is a near complete inability to look at the experience of other countries and learn from it. This is a phenomenon that exists even among educated people
The pandemic wouldn't have been as bad if public health officials had realized most people regard in-person social interaction as 'essential', are not bad people for it, and that a strategy centered around expecting them to sacrifice it for months at a time was never gonna work.

The decision to extend stay-at-home is the right one. The idea that these goons can’t answer the question “what level do we need to get to vaccines/cases/Rt/% positivity to end the stay at home order” is embarrassing.

These are genuinely fantastic numbers and shows that vaccine hesitancy in Canada and the US may be completely different universes.
Over 50% of adults aged 18 and over in Ontario have received their first dose of the #COVID19 vaccine! news.ontario.ca/en/release/1… Learn more about eligibility and where to get vaccinated at: covid-19.ontario.ca/ontarios….

#thisisourshot Should @fordnation extend the stay at home order (he should) we need to set some serious goals by the end of that period. We have the supply for: - 10M shots in arms in Ontario by June 3rd - 80% of eligible pop 1 dose. 65% total pop. - 90/75 in hotspots
Our situation is improving. When establishing criteria for safe & sustainable reopening we should focus less on healthcare system capacity and more on ensuring people are protected from getting #COVID in the first place.

People need some light at the end of this tunnel motivation to help other navigate this mess of a vaccine booking system. If we look to the UK, Israel etc this level of vax can change things in a bit way. With the supply coming in we can do every second dose in June/July.

We need a big goal, something to hold our politicians accountable 10M shots by June 3rd (24 days from now) This would require our 7 day average to increase 3% daily for an average of 167k/day over the next 3.5 weeks. This needs to be the goal. Anything less is a failure.

Maybe it’s recency bias but I genuinely believe Fullerton may be the worst cabinet minister in Canadian political history.
Quite the moment at Queen's Park today, when the Minister of Long-Term Care said she will "not be spoken to that way" after being asked to resign over the nearly 4,000 deaths in Ontario nursing homes during the pandemic. #onpoli

Feels necessary to share this again. This was from February 11th. This wave is likely the biggest policy failure of my lifetime. @fordnation is a failure. Don’t let these people gaslight you saying that they did “everything they could”. They didn’t. People died.
COVID-19 modelling table: ▪️ 3rd wave possible b/c of variants ▪️ Stay at home order & aggressive vaccinations necessary Ford government: ▪️ Ended the state of emergency ▪️ Lifting the stay at home order ▪️ Opening the economy (to a degree) TVO's John Michael McGrath: #onpoli
