🗣️ “I thought I had a shot of winning this, but I didn’t want to make any moves myself.”
It may have been his first marathon, but Andreas Almgren looked like anything but a rookie en route to his victory at yesterday’s New York City Marathon. The Swedish star covered the final 1.2 miles in 5:21, opening a 13-second gap over eventual runner-up Yeman Crippa.

AGE IS JUST A NUMBER 👸
The incredible Edna Kiplagat 🇰🇪 finishes fourth in the 2026 NYC Marathon at age 46, running 2:25:42 on the same course where she won the title 16(!) years prior.
Kiplagat was with the leaders through 23 miles as she ended up just a minute off the podium in another chapter in her endlessly impressive career.

Ciara Mageean, the 2024 European 1500m champion for Ireland, passed away this morning after a battle with cancer. She was 34.
Mageean’s stellar victory in Rome two summers ago made her the first Irish athlete to win an individual European title in the 21st century. It also completed a full set of continental medals, as she had won silver at the 2022 European Championships and bronze in 2016. On the global stage, Mageean was a two-time Olympian and made two World Championship 1500m finals, finishing fourth at the 2023 edition in Budapest.
Mageean holds the Irish record at the 800m, 1000m, 1500m and the mile, where her PB of 4:14.58 sits seventh all-time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and all who were lucky enough to spend time with her.
