People like open source and stuff that they have full control over.
Chinese teams are releasing their most powerful models open source and we're keeping our most powerful models closed.
Not a hard equation.
We have a fear mongering movement in the West that is working to stoke fear about AI at every turn and other than Meta only secondary and third tier models get released as open source in the west.
If it continues we'll regret it. China and not the US will become the leader in open source AI. That's the current trajectory with their models and fantastic libraries like ms-swift for inference and training. We still have time to turn it around but it's fading fast.
The key for us is to get back to understanding the soft power of open source and how it came to be the most important software on the planet worth trillions of dollars on economic value.

Video generation models do not understand basic physics.
Let alone the human body.
CW: Body Horror?
This AI video attempt to show gymnastics is one of the best examples I have seen that AI doesn’t actually understand the human body and it’s motion but is just regurgitating available data. (Which appears to be minimal for gymnastics) nitter.gq/Przemek87394560/status…

The people and advertisers leaving Meta aren't saying no to the metaverse. They're turning away from our current broken social media platforms.
This next move feels like a distraction - the metaverse will not be made up of short-form videos. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
At @soulmachines, we see the metaverse moving existing internet experiences like shopping and entertainment into a highly interactive 3D world.
The metaverse will become sharing total, everyday experiences beyond meetings.

This super strong artificial muscle brings us closer to lifelike robots
Artificial muscle points to lifelike robots sooner than we expected
Researchers at Columbia University have created an artificial active tissue that, when 3D printed to imitate a muscle, can withstand great strain and lift 1,000 times its own weight.
