Gentlemen, you can't drill here. This is the Arctic! I dug Digger, a beautiful two-hour anxiety attack. A film of showy performances and glossy artifice, sitting atop a story that made my stomach drop — exactly, I imagine, as Iñárritu intended.

I'm not an influencer, just a humble interviewer. I'll say this about The Odyssey: It's an astonishing spectacle and a brilliant, subversive adaptation. The scale was a given, but Nolan's psychological interrogation of events was what satisfied me most. A bracingly modern take.

Yawn. Muting this. FWIW, a clarification: Nolan's adaptation is subversive and modern through his characterization of Odysseus; a portrait with shades of Oppenheimer. But good to know so many people still care about the Classics.

Short story: One day they set up the green room in a Backrooms set not being used that day (I won't spoil which). It creeped out Renate Reinsve so much she asked to be removed.

BACKROOMS: The first film to truly capture the banal terror of generative AI? One of many ideas knocking around Parsons’ ambitious debut. One thing’s for sure: he translates the web series’ ominous aura to the big screen seamlessly.

Watching Ryan Gosling in PROJECT HAIL MARY reminded me of peak Tom Hanks. He’s the special effect, making you believe in the make believe. Helluva film, helluva performance.

Another triumph from @davidehrlich. It always arrives at the perfect time: exhausted from the awards season slog, daunted by Sundance schedules. A reminder why you loved these films — and film in general — in the first place.

There are many reasons to recommend it — Chalamet untethered, Paltrow’s a star is reborn turn, Safdie’s propulsive direction — but MARTY SUPREME features the best set of mugs I’ve seen all year. Same logic as Nolan’s starry casting of Oppenheimer: every face is memorable.

You’re going to need to trust me when I say AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH and ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER have a lot in common. Seriously.

Joachim Trier summer (and fall, and maybe forever). I spoke to the maestro and his cast about Sentimental Value. Of course I asked him about those Netflix jokes. cnn.com/2025/11/11/entertain…

A couple of weeks ago I sat down with Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Yorgos Lanthimos and Will Tracy to chew over BUGONIA. It's a fascinating film; provocative, spiky, with, I'd argue, a very tender underbelly. Links below. Out in cinemas today.
