My WebGPU path tracer is open source! 🎉
Physically based rendering, running right in your browser. MIT licensed.
- WebGPU compute shader path tracing, with WebGL 2 fallback
- Two-level BVH built using parallel Web Workers, based on TinyBVH. A 4.6M-triangle scene's BVH builds in just 0.5s on my M4 Max
- Clean results from just a few samples with OIDN denoising
- OpenPBR 1.1 materials
- Physical camera with f-stop depth of field, AgX tone mapping, and bloom
- Drop-in Three.js scene synchronization

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 is the first open-weight model I've tried that feels this fucking close to Opus at Blender + Three.js.
It made this video 👇

We have measured intelligence. Now it's time to see it.
We are launching AA-3D, our new benchmark for how well AI models build interactive 3D scenes. Each model works as an agent in an offline sandbox and turns a written brief into a three.js web page. A human panel of judges compares pairs of scenes built from the same brief without knowing which model made which.
AA-3D details:
➤ 55 written briefs across seven domains, including landmarks, machines, living bodies, games, and space. Each brief says what the scene must show and how people should interact with it, and leaves the rest to the model
➤ Each model gets up to three hours and 250 turns. Its sandbox has Blender, Rapier physics, Python, a headless browser to test its own work, and a CC0 library of materials, 3D models, and characters
➤ Panelists spend at least 30 seconds with each scene before they vote. One comparison in every four is a validation check
➤ Over 10,000 counted votes from over 1,000 panelists rank 21 models by Elo, with 95% confidence intervals
Key findings:
➤ Four models are statistically tied at the top: Claude Sonnet 5.5 (1194), Claude Opus 5.5 (1190), GPT-6 Astra (1165), and Claude Fable 5.1 (1131). The 95% confidence intervals of the other three overlap Claude Sonnet 5.5's
➤ AA-3D Elo rises with intelligence: each point on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index is worth about 18 Elo (Pearson 0.92)
➤ The best-placed open weights models, Kimi K3 (982) and MiMo-V2.6-Pro (977), rank 11th and 12th, more than 200 points behind first place
➤ A scene costs $0.20 to $32.08, depending on the model. The cheapest, GPT-6 Luna, ranks eighth
More results, more scenes, and how AA-3D works follow in the thread below.
Hold a real lighter up to your webcam and the sheet on your screen catches fire 🔥
@noormtir shares how an open-source React library folds sheets without stretching them and burns them with a real fluid simulation.

"Hey Claude, what if we change the HDRI to another scene, is that complex, how long does that take, make no mistakes!"
Claude 4 minutes later: "Yeah NP, here it is, new lighting is fully procedural and not baked in, the light through the marbles and the reflections all adapt"

real time global illumination, now on webgpu
compute-shader path tracing + a denoiser, so you can orbit and spin stuff and it stays relatively clean? What do you think?
rgbjoy.com/experiments/globa…
how it got from 13ms → 6.5ms a frame: bounce rays traced at a quarter res, edge-aware upsample so light doesn’t leak across edges, à-trous denoiser, and only the stuff near the spinning plus re-traces each frame. the rest just settles

About 5x faster to prototype right now with Unreal Engine and 10x with ThreeJS. Working to reverse the gap by year end.
new #threejs stream: baking SDFs, creating translucency, thickness, gold wrapped in glass effects, collisions for GPGPU, raymarching sdf's, and marched gyroid, all in #threejs scene in 1 hour 🤯

Google dropped Gemini 4 Argon today, and it's a big jump.
On day one Argon ranks as the second best model overall, at the frontier, right behind Opus 5.5, at about $0.44 a scene vs $2.67 for Opus 5.5.
The best previous Gemini, 3.8 Flash, sits at #14.
threejseval.com is a blind 3D leaderboard. Every model gets the same Three.js prompts (a sailboat, a chess set, a tropical island, 16 scenes in all). People vote on the results without seeing model names, and models are ranked by quality and cost.

Working on a lightmapper directly inside three.js, will be most useful for static scenes like archviz.
Still need to improve the blotching in the darker areas, will release it once it's done ✌️

I remade my homepage with Opus 5.5 and pushed it hard. We made music & movies, drew textures, modeled things in Blender: felixrieseberg.com
I'm really happy with the result!
