I remember when I was the harness for o1 pro.
Replying to @timigod
In fact, for most programming issues, o1 pro is the problem solver, while I’m the API for tool use (talk to copilot, copy and paste code bidirectionally). I sometimes help with the problem solving, but I don’t think about the majority of stuff.

What a time.
Muse Spark Open -- weights releasing today -- runs great on new Mac Studios thanks to work with @johnternus and Apple.

String theory is what happens when an intelligent system is starved of sensory input and starts hallucinating. Intelligence needs grounding. For this reason, intelligence is practically never the bottleneck to solving impactful problems. The bottleneck is iterated contact with reality.

The first time machines mogged mathematicians? 1976. Proof of the ‘Four Colour Problem’ is announced, the work was aided by computer. Mathematicians lost their minds. “God wouldn’t let the theorem be proved by a method as terrible as that!” - Herbert Wilf, University of Pennsylvania “the present proof relies in effect on an Oracle, and I say down with Oracles! They are not mathematics” … - Paul Halmos, UC Santa Barbara “if the solution involves computer verification of special cases . . . such a solution does not belong to mathematical science at all.” - Frank Bonsall, University of Edinburgh “Admitting the computer shenanigans of Appel and Haken to the ranks of mathematics would only leave us intellectually unfulfilled.” - Daniel Cohen, Hunter College NYC “not only is no proof to be found in what they published, but there is not anything that even begins to look like a proof… …It is the most ridiculous case of ‘The King’s New Clothes’ that has ever disgraced the history of mathematics” - George Spencer-Brown, Cambridge University

Everyone is acting like this is the first time machines mogged mathematicians. In 1976 they *lost their minds* over the first computer aided proof, quotes via new @PessimistsArc post newsletter.pessimistsarchive…

It’s so hubristic and ignorant to think that “Maths is over” because you refuse to do the maths of the day. Maths isn’t over. If anything, it just started. Come along for the ride or die before you die.

Super Intelligence must be contained... Today, this is an engineering and governance challenge. And it isn't new. We've done it with planes, cars, nuclear materials, food safety, medicines... and everything else. Let's get to work!

*Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done" WTF?!! Since when was math something that was only done at the request of professional mathematicians?!! Mathematicians don't own mathematics! This is crazy!!

I think I wrote exactly that, and it is still right. Organizations are a form of narrow superintelligence. My university, or Walmart, can do things that a human cannot, often using complex processes no one designed explicitly. I will go further: the failure to deeply consider how to make AI work together with existing organizational superintelligences is a big reason why we have not yet seen any large impact of AI on scientific discovery or economic productivity despite high levels of AI ability.
Reminiscing about when people used to say dumb shit like "we already have superintelligence, they're called corporations." Yes, who could forget that fateful day in October when Dicks Sporting Goods dropped dozens of Fields Medal worthy math discoveries on the world all at once.

I guess this is relevant today that decompiled games are the rave.
It has always been this way, but LLMs have accelerated source code’s fecundity. Much like how memes spread, once source code is read, decompiled, or inferred via observability, it can be reproduced ad infinitum, in as many varying forms as necessary. Source code that can be read is effectively unownable. Legally it may belong to someone, but realistically you likely cannot stop it if the source code is fire.

Aleph is preeminent expert in all matters crypto x Africa. In this piece he writes about the world's best performing stock market, the impetus for local stablecoins and the future of global market participation. Please enjoy.
🎉 Local Stablecoins, Tokenization and a Global Naira I lay down my vision for what will be possible as local stablecoins and tokenization mature. I’m sure in 2 years, it will be obvious I over-promised; in 10 years, it will be a shame I under-promised. aleph.medium.com/local-stabl…

“ Mathematics is about to graduate. It will grow into a full-scale industry and become the true infrastructure of all scientific and technological progress, a foundation that every other field stands on rather than a quiet corner of academia. The age of lone climbers is closing, and the age of mapping the whole continent is opening. As for me, I can't wait to see those vast mountain ranges from my supersonic airplane.”
