"Exercise extreme caution before even thinking about microservices" I think is good advise. While they can be useful and necessary under some circumstances, they also introduce significant complexity. world.hey.com/dhh/how-to-rec…

The development of AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone. It will change the way people work, learn, travel, get health care, and communicate with each other. gatesnot.es/3FIamPU

I've just posted my first update since joining Sourcegraph six months ago, "Cheating is All You Need". In it I introduce AI-backed coding assistants, which are the biggest change I've seen in 35 years as an engineer. Enjoy! about.sourcegraph.com/blog/c…

Drum machines did not replace drummers, but rather opened new avenues for creative expression. Similarly, AI has the potential to enhance human creativity rather than replace it.

I made a thing over the break. We all know we shouldn’t share secrets over @SlackHQ etc (I’ve had API tokens in my inbox from a DM before), but sharing via a password manager can be tricky with clients etc. Any feedback is welcome! privatepassage.io/

I think they’re on the right path here. Education at its roots needs to focus on critical thinking, creativity, compassion, self education and tools to navigate life. Rote skills like arithmetic, essay writing, spelling … will become as useful as the abacus.

ChatGPT is quickly becoming an essential part of my development workflow. It’s like having an insanely knowledgeable pairing partner always on hand to work through problems with.

I got really excited when I saw Spotify has audiobooks now. But then disappointed to learn you still have to pay full price for each one, even with a premium subscription (and can’t even purchase through the app). 👎

The only way to improve software performance is to have a good profiling tool and to relentlessly, ruthlessly investigate everything you see in it. You cannot "best practice" your way to good perf. It requires investigation of code which is actually running.
