ff7 remake and rebirth have over-the-top final boss battles, staged by unambiguous narration of fate and multidimensionality respectively, in a way I find difficult to take seriously. But then both games redeem themselves at the end with subtle, ambiguous cutscenes.

that I couldn’t say what happened at the end of these games with certainty is thrilling, but the over-explanation of the first ending through the course of Rebirth feels stilted. I hope Revelation doesn’t reveal (lol) in a wooden manner exactly what happened in Rebirth.

Most of the narrative additions (besides Roche) and bloated side content are marks against the series for me. But when the games are working with material from OG I think they’re excellent. And the quests in Rebirth are a huge step forward compared to Remake.
