The single source of universal trauma for #Autism is school.

Punishment & isolation doesn’t teach the brain how to regulate.
It doesn’t address the why behind the behaviour or teach skills to manage big emotions,or support long-term behavioural change.
We need to stop focusing solely on the symptoms & start addressing the root causes.

The government has published guidance and this includes Children with medical conditions at school this includes hypermobility/Ehlers Danlos syndrome (EDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
All of this can be variable from one day to the next and at their worst extremely debilitating. These conditions can be made worse by Covid
MCAS being one that can be particularly difficult to diagnose although there is now a consensus 2 criteria that can be used - 24 hr urine tests rather than tryptase which can be invasive and take multiple blood tests to catch

Yes, and also this: Milburn has so far ignored (angrily) the vital safeguarding elements involved in any reform.

Suggestion, @Helen_Whately. Rather than focusing on the cost of disabled people, why not focus on the systems failing them?
NHS clinical negligence payments rose from £863m in 2010/11 to over £3bn in 2024/25, - 14 yrs of Conservative government

Another reminder that child abusers like to hold positions of trust that give them access to, and authority over, children. A professional title is not a safeguard. Children’s safety must always come before an adult’s status or reputation.

Attendance awards have no place in an inclusive school. They are discriminatory, unfair, harmful and promote a culture of exclusion.

That was a care plan at TEWV’s West Lane.

This was punishment dressed up as care. #TEWV

…@CarersTrust Yesterday: 1 in 3 carers provide 100+ hours/week. Today: getting carers “back into work”. £86.45 CA = 86p/hour at 100 hours. Replacing that care at minimum wage = £1,271/week, with legal rest protections. Why isn’t reducing those 100+ hours the priority?
The latest Survey of Adult Carers in England shows more than a third of carers are providing 100+ hours of care a week, with over half struggling to look after themselves properly.
Caring around the clock should not mean sacrificing your own health, wellbeing, and ability to live a full life.
Unpaid carers urgently need better funded support, real access to breaks, and a social care system that is there when they need it.
