i find that when i’m working with my hands, sometimes the most “random” memories surface in my mind. like walking down a specific street in another city 9 years ago. or the face of a kid i went to 4th grade with.
what does it mean? what is my brain doing?
whoever maintains this little park turned tree stumps into little chairs for fairies, gnomes, small children, or whatever.
now that’s how you whimsymaxx!
had a blast interviewing reece foster, a cornish blacksmith who works out of a 270 year old irish forge.
my favorite part of our conversation was when we discussed the mead brewing process. unexpected and fun!

ok i would really love to hear other artist's perspectives on this
i kind of want to revisit my stitched journal series, but also, silver work is my focus right now
are there any good examples of people who share/display a wide variety of work/techniques/mediums and get it all to flow together and make sense?
i often feel like i need to flatten myself somewhat in order to be more marketable (ew lol) but then that other side of me starts screaming :D
i guess i'm just wondering how best to toe the line between art+business
last week i was feeling quite down because i KEPT screwing things up. i was quite anxious to go into the studio this week, because i've spent hours getting mad and upset that things aren't working, making me feel incompetent.
this particular example, where my sword literally broke in half after i already had set the gem 🙃 could not be fixed any other way than by soldering -- and soldering has TERRIFIED ME. i don't know, there are so many moving parts. using flux, heating the piece evenly, heating just the joint, heating the solder, putting it on the pick, applying it to the joint at exactly the right time.
the person i sometimes go to for instruction/help was out sick this week so i finally had to pull on my britches and do it by myself.
in the end, i'm grateful, because i actually managed, and it wasn't even that scary. lmao. i feel like i took a really big step forward.
i reallyreallyreally enjoyed this. probably going to write a blog post about it later. but for now:
what so many of us suffer with in modern life is a lack of purpose. one that isn't tied to external achievement, but to internal transformation. something that we keep showing up to, even when it's hard. "kaizen sees the process itself as sacred."
it feels very resonant with my path of learning and my experience as an artist. each time you work with a new material, bit by bit you begin to develop your own language and understanding of it. if you stay dedicated to that relationship, it deepens and becomes so much richer over time.
gradually you see how you're refining your skills, your confidence, and yourself. it's like a dance, or a braid, weaving together, laying coil over coil in an upwards spiral.
I’m going live on YouTube in one hour to talk about the Alchemy of purpose. You can join us here:

real
first of all, f* the algo.
i feel like we’re so worried about how we’re perceived online that we’ve forgotten how to have fun on here. myself included.
social media is forgiving. a couple of viralish posts and you’re back again. people who are hiring here want people they like working with who can do the job. so just be competent. showing your work doesn’t have to mean hiding the rest of your life and personality.
i’d rather post shit i enjoy and schizopost somedays when i drink too much coffee than overthink how i come across.
my phone decided to show me @sozuhaus memories this morning 😭 i made my first hand carved sword and ouroboros ring there last year.
miss everyone!!
yesterday i interviewed someone and learned some insane facts about mead. like you can catch yeast in the wild to make a brew?!?!?!?!!
sharing once i have time to edit
so don’t wait up lol
i want all the clothes @dwn2erth makes 😭
so it’s really about the friends we made along the way?
((always has been))
