I designed an analog mixed-signal radio chip with an AI agent: about 700 prompts in a week, and it's now submitted for tapeout.
Here's how it went at each step of the design, the times it was confidently wrong, and how I caught them.

Our favourite part of the week is here!
This week's Chip of the Week is a design by Zachary Kohnen. Created as part of his bachelor’s thesis, the Manchester Decoder demonstrates an ASIC-based solution using Tiny Tapeout.
📡 The design decodes wireless signals from a 433 MHz receiver, extracting useful information from a thermostat’s transmission.

Last October 1-2, Pat Deegan led the two-day IEEE Open Silicon sponsored workshop in Panama City, as part of LACSS 2026.
41 participants completed their designs, which are now heading to fabrication!
A big thank you to the local volunteers who served as TAs.

ThunderScopes are landing on benches everywhere!
Perfect timing: we just sat down with Aleksa to talk about why she built it, the analog front-end challenges, and why she makes open source hardware.

What are people building with Tiny Tapeout? Every week, we spotlight a design from our community and share what it does, how it works, and why we think it’s cool.
This week, we're featuring a the classic Simon Says memory game by @UriShaked. You can build it on a breadboard, or play it online first via Wokwi.
Try it out and let us know what you think 👇

What if you could test your chip design on real hardware before tapeout? 😯
Presenting the Tiny Tapeout Lending Library!
Borrow an FPGA kit with Pmods for at least 3 months, test your digital designs, then pass it on to the next person.

These one-of-a-kind Tiny Tapeout x wafer.space breakout boards have 52 unique open-source designs on them!
Check out the behind the scenes of how they were made: crowdsupply.com/wafer-space/…
Will you be at the next 2026 @hackaday Superconference in Pasadena? You'll have a chance of getting your own breakout board!

How is a chip built layer by layer inside the fab?
We look at the machines that deposit, etch and implant materials into the wafer, how photolithography ties it together, and how a MOSFET is built from scratch.

Were you at OSHCamp last August? We were!
Stuart @sc_r gave a talk on Chip-on-Board (COB) wire bonding, while Kris talked about the process of designing and manufacturing your own custom chip :)

Your daily dose of ASICs.
Open source FPGA, after an open source software stack, the next frontier is silicon.
This board was made by Leo Moser (not me), and manufactured through wafer.space on the Global Foundries 180nm node.
And it works.
