Idk man I’ll never get on a team for trading a lot for an established star. The draft picks could range from a star to a player that is not good at all. I prefer the guarantee.
Now if you want to have a discussion over rookie contract vs established player contract that’s valid
Every lions beat writer thinks the concept of trading firsts is franchise crippling
There is absolutely ZERO nuance when it comes to the Lions making a trade conversation, it’s so toxic. It’s either one extreme or the other, “Lions won’t do anything no Super Bowl” or “Lions ruin their whole future by selling the farm”
It doesn’t have to be one or the other, they can add quality player by not giving up a whole lot but they also just can’t be cheap af, and even if Brad did trade 2 1s, I have enough faith in him in the other parts of the draft(if he stops trading up) to make up for the lack of a 1st round pick. I don’t see it as some franchise crippling move especially when your core is as locked in as ours!
Tanking was a necessary evil of this league and now the league punishes you for being bad. Yes bad organizations stay bad for sure but good ones will stay bad or become mid at best because they don’t acquire enough elite talent especially if they’re not in a huge market
