CBT for UK citizens (and globally) as a solution to tax evasion, thoughts @MikeBre14267200 ? 🤨 youtu.be/uLBsHXNEwAU?t=2941 should start at 49:01

You nailed it "Imagine being held to the same reporting standards as a Fortune 100 company just because you live abroad." Imagine politicians demanding to score any relief for revenue neutrality, otherwise this should stay.
Such a great summary of what so many Americans face before they expatriate. The average American has no idea what US expats go through. The compliance burden is absurd. Imagine being held to the same reporting standards as a Fortune 100 company just because you live abroad. That’s the reality. Endless forms. Endless filings. For ordinary people who simply happen to live outside the US. #USExpats #ExpatLife

The entire bill is revenue negative! That’s not why ending double tax didn’t make it. It wasn’t and never has been about revenue neutrality. Anyone telling you that is stringing you along. And if anyone tells you that in the future just ask “how does ending tax on tips score?” Or “how does 100% bonus depreciation score”. Nearly the entire bill is filled with giveaways lobbied by professionals and backed by campaign contributions to key members of Congress. Trump’s pledge wasn’t enough since he hasn’t repeated it since. The best hope now based on his pledge is a regulatory fix. The best hope from Congress is a targeted campaign at a senator and Trump’s end double taxation pledge is useful evidence to that senator that supporting RBT is not anti-MAGA. It’s time for full RBT. No compromise.

Note to self 👇
It would be prudent for #Americansabroad to "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst". Those who can @JustRenounce (especially those over 50 or so) should probably begin their renunciation planning. Yes, @citizenshiptax will end, but not in time for you.

Looking forward to it ☕️
Thinking about the @IRS_Medic podcast today about the @RepLaHood bill ... Should be an interesting discussion. Rereading the Bill I realized that both the LaHood Bill and the proposed "revenge tax" in the Big Beautiful bill create a new S. 899 of the IRC. Coincidence? lahood.house.gov/_cache/file…

As they say, Uncertainty is worse than bad news. Better? Nope. But time to move on. The LaHood proposal is the only meaningful option on the table left, for years to come. Please make your voice heard. For guidelines search profiles @SEATNow_org @TaxFairUSAbroad @DemsAbroad

Chapter 4 here talks about multinationals laughing their … off regarding GILTI. And not much will change with BBB. Meanwhile americans abroad pay thousands of dollars for insane tax forms, punitive tax, incl. on undistributed, non us sourced income. m.youtube.com/watch?v=0aO36Z…

Most Americans have no idea how brutal it is to live abroad as a US citizen. 5+ million Americans overseas deal with a headache most can't imagine... While Canadian citizens who move to Spain face zero tax obligations to Canada. Americans? Still filing US returns from wherever they land. The absurdity is real: • FBAR filing for any foreign account over $10K • FATCA compliance makes opening a simple bank account a headache • Double taxation even after paying local taxes Boris Johnson sold his London flat, paid UK taxes, then IRS demanded MORE on the same gain. He called it outrageous and renounced his citizenship. The Pope must file US tax returns on his Vatican salary. The simple truth is: An American who moves abroad = tax and compliance prison for life. Millions were hoping this administration would keep its promise and eliminate these absurd requirements. So far? Radio silence... We need to keep talking about this. 5.5 million Americans abroad deserve representation. Or at least basic fairness. Taxation without representation isn't just history. It's happening right now... #Expats #TaxTwitter #ExpatTax

💯 Confiscation. Expect when scoring a bill that would stop it, it's a loss of revenue.

@ExpatriationLaw Why is it that "Justification of taxation" never seems to come up as a reason to angle against CBT? Olden days justification Protection Newer **Provision of resident services** Newer yet Protection of rights @IRS_MEDIC nitter.gq/ExpatriationLaw/status…

Nothing to see here. Just the IRS commissioner doesn’t understand how CBT works with respect to taxing its citizens abroad based on worldwide income. Next time you get these no responses when advocating for relief (ie pfic comments), these are the people you are talking to.
Embarrassing IRS Comm seems not to know 1) Pope is a US cit, everyone else seems to know, 2) how the US tax laws work. If Pope was a non-US person, then his comment about source of income being the test for US tax wd b correct. Otherwise flat out wrong.

Great idea📨🇻🇦
Maybe you should consider writing a short public letter to the Vatican to alert them to this issue affecting the new Pope, and all other American citizens living abroad.

Doable?

The best way forward is RBT effective January 1, 2025, that’s automatic. No election. No thresholds. A very simple rule: if you are not present in the US for 120 midnights per year, you’re presumed non-resident. Simple. Easy. Fair. @ExpatriationLaw

💯👉"The best way to help accidental Americans and other Americans abroad who are not in compliance is to get a significant crack in the current CBT system by allowing a solid carve out for current in-compliance Americans" In the long haul Solomon's napkin helps accidentals too

This thread is fascinating (replies). So many have no clue. Thanks for battling in the trenches @giornioFR Maybe we need a napkin for dispelling US CBT myths.
