NFTs are dead.
Here’s what you need to know…
When I say NFTs are dead, I’m not saying they cannot scale. The problem is that, as of the moment, they haven’t scaled.
This is why we’re no longer seeing the kind of NFT market where people buy, hold, and flip NFTs for profit.
Devs and founders should have realized by now that this model is not profitable in the long run.
The reason is that crypto in general, and blockchain technology as a whole, has not scaled. We already have the technology and the products. What we’re lacking is real-world adoption.
For instance, anybody coming into crypto now is buying the next token in the hope that its value will increase so they can sell it, make money, and become rich.
This in itself is not bad, but it has become the sole focus. And that shows how far we still have to go.
When it comes to NFTs, people are also hoping they can buy and hold them, then sell them at a higher price.
That game is long dead. That’s an old game.
NFTs are actually built for something more. They can serve as a form of certificate.
Imagine owning a piece of land and having its ownership certificate recorded on the blockchain. This is where NFTs come in.
Imagine a game like Call of Duty where you purchase all these mystic guns, skins, and different items. Now, imagine a similar game in Web3 where those items exist as NFTs. When you buy them, they don’t just remain locked in the game. You can transfer them on the blockchain to another person who also has an account, and they have value beyond the game itself.
Imagine tokenizing your grandma on the blockchain.
These are the kinds of things NFTs are meant for.
But as of the moment, governments have not fully adopted blockchain technology. Real-world adoption is still limited, and the real investors and market movers have not fully come in.
So, at this point in crypto, we’re stuck. We’re not going back, but we’re not moving forward either.
It’s only when these things start happening that we can begin to see the real power of crypto.
As of the moment, there is really nothing new you want to build that hasn’t already been built. Think of anything. It’s probably built already. What we’re waiting for is adoption.
This is why, for now, NFTs and many other crypto projects are not profitable in the long run, unless you’re looking at short-term opportunities like flipping.
