Once a child is under anesthesia, what’s actually stopping someone from giving them something the parents never agreed to❓ Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is running a program called “Close Your Eyes, We’ll Immunize.” Since 2023, CHOP has been offering parents the chance to have their child vaccinated against the flu while the child is already under sedation or anesthesia for another procedure. Staff raise it on the day of surgery. If the parents consent, the vaccine is given while the child is knocked out. In the 2025–2026 flu season alone they delivered over 2,000 doses this way. Roughly a third of those children, they say, wouldn’t have received the flu shot otherwise because of needle fear, limited access, or vaccine hesitancy. The hospital has reported generating over $60,000 from the program in one season and has discussed expanding it to include COVID-19, RSV, and other catch-up vaccines. Other children’s hospitals, including in Colorado, North Carolina, Seattle, Ohio, and Chicago, have run or piloted similar programs. Anesthesiologists have called it “stunningly irresponsible.” Adding a vaccine under anesthesia introduces another potential source of fever, rash, or allergic reaction at a time when the medical team is already managing potent drugs. If something goes wrong, it becomes harder to know whether it was the anesthetic, the antibiotic, or the vaccine. Remember when there were No daily fear updates. No pressure to take an experimental product. No school closures for a cold. A healthy 19-year-old simply went to sleep and didn’t wake up. The family is now raising money for funeral costs. North Carolina. 19-year-old Ryu, a 2025 Bunker Hill High School graduate, died in his sleep on Monday morning. He played esports for Catawba Valley Community College’s Red Hawk team. His family says they don’t yet know the cause of death. No illness or warning signs have been mentioned. His sister said he loved art, animation, gaming and photography. His coach called him passionate and an honour to coach. There were no warning signs. No accident, no illness, no hospital stay. A healthy 14-year-old girl simply went to bed and did not wake up the next morning. She attended Nyeri Good Shepherd Academy and was due to perform at the Festival of Arts the following day. The festival went ahead without her.

Another former NFL player gone at 37. “Natural causes” at that age usually raises more questions than it answers. Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Allen Bailey has died at 37. He was found dead at his Florida home by his wife on Tuesday. His brother told TMZ the family believes it was natural causes. No official cause has been released.
