“If the pendulum swings back in the direction of phonics w/out a simultaneous change in the way we approach comprehension... (many may) inevitably say, as they have before, ‘You see? Phonics doesn’t work.’” Great piece from @natwexler
Recent coverage of reading has done a great job uncovering problems w/phonics instruction. But if we're going to help all kids read, it needs to mention that std comprehension instruction conflicts w/science. @ehanford @Stephen_Sawchuk @LianaLoewus 1/4 forbes.com/sites/nataliewexl…

I highly recommend @markseidenberg's book if you're trying to understand what the "science of reading" is all about. It certainly isn't just phonics. seidenbergreading.net/
I agree. But most people on the Ed side won’t open my book and so don’t have much of the relevant background knowledge.

So we are doing a thing in my #PPCD classroom and we have torn 👏🏻 down 👏🏻 our 👏🏻 #wordwall and have replaced it with a #soundwall which is much more appropriate for my #earlychildhood #SpecialEducation students. More to come on this! @tools4reading @ELCSouth_KISD @KellerSped
