My overriding feeling is that Xabi Alonso is prioritising fixing the leaky defence we saw at the start of the season.
Against Tottenham and Liverpool, the goals that were conceded were largely down to individual errors.
The attack will sort itself with Cole and João back.
Disappointing to lose, but penalties were always going to be difficult with the players we had on the pitch.
However, the performance was a solid one, and it does look as though Xabi Alonso is sorting out the defensive issues.
Feel most for Mike Penders after that save.
Tonight is the first time that Romeo Lavia has completed 90 minutes for Chelsea in a competitive game.
Very encouraging to see.
Really frustrating way for Fofana to concede that penalty just after taking the lead.
There was zero reason for his arm to be that high.
Illustration of why he isn’t near our best eleven at the moment.
Great penalty from Morgan Rogers.
Loved the wry smile from Hendo when he was walking over with the ball.
Smart through-ball from Malo Gusto - first real moment of quality of the half.
Xabi Alonso has given us change of shape tonight into either a 4-3-3 or a 3-5-2 hybrid.
It will be interesting to see how we have learned from the defeat at the weekend.
This is so apt.
Eventually, somebody at Chelsea will have to be given time if we are to win major titles again.
Xabi Alonso got it badly wrong; for the passiveness, man-to-man game, lack of any control, and the subs.
Every elite coach has days like these: where everything possible goes awry.
This happened to Pep, Klopp, Arteta, José in their opening seasons.
He needs a fair crack.
A disappointing bump in the road.
Tottenham outfought and outthought us, and the game was played almost fully on their terms.
Mistake from Penders, which nobody wants to see, but an utterly stupid red card from Palmer that effectively ended the game.
Lessons to learn for Xabi
Not a good half.
The fact the game became a man-to-man chess match has not worked to our advantage.
Lots for Xabi Alonso to ponder and re-organise at the break, even if we looked better towards the end of the half.
This will be a baptism of fire for Geovany Quenda.
First start for Chelsea at home to Spurs is a prime opportunity to become an instant hero.
Wishing him the best of luck.
Tottenham will not be an easy game today.
They have been better this season than their points tally suggests, and now have confidence after their first win.
Alonso needs to ensure there is no complacency or underestimating them.
Wishing Vincent Kompany all the best after the concerning news coming out of Bayern training this afternoon.
Watching a Cesc Fabregas team shred Man United for the last 90 minutes has been immensely therapeutic and satisfying.
He is such a good manager.
It is fantastic to see Josh Acheampong overtake Wesley Fofana in the pecking order for the RCB/RB role on merit.
Xabi Alonso has clearly set out that the best players will play, regardless of experience, age or wages.
This is what we have been wanting for a long time.
Levi Colwill has improved massively since Alonso has shifted to 4-4-2.
This has allowed him to share distribution duties with Lacroix and given him less responsibility for defending wide areas.
Great to see him looking more like the player we saw in 24/25.
Mike Penders will have a baptism of fire at Stamford Bridge, with his first two PL games being Spurs and Manchester United.
He was brought in to be our main goalkeeper for years to come, and now he will have the chance to show what he is made of.
Promising start at Everton.
Delighted that Jorrel Hato took his opportunity well today.
He looked solid defensively, and made some very smart overlapping runs going forward, including for his assist.
The signs have been there since he was at Ajax - he will be a top player.
This victory is a massive step forward for the group.
Getting the win away at Everton with a clean sheet with a referee against us and our goalkeeper going off injured shows mental fortitude not seen for well over a year.
Our best all-round performance of the season so far.
