On #TrafalgarDay we remember the great Horatio Nelson, Duke of Bronte. The Brontes took their name from him. News of Trafalgar first reached England on this day 1805 in Penzance, where the Bronte mother Maria was living, via a fishing boat that got the news from HMS Pickle.

Is this the greatest ever opening line to a last chapter? Here is 'Reader - I married him' in Charlotte Bronte's own handwriting. Charlotte received her author copies of her first published book #otd 1847. Happy Jane Eyre day!

The meaning of the phrase Jews Donβt Count is often misunderstood. It means: as a vulnerable minority. A minority that has suffered, like all minorities, extreme violence and discrimination. The assumption remains, despite history, that Jews are too powerful really to be seen in that way. Drawing attention to Jewish suffering is seen as only another example of their power, of Jews' ability to highlight their own suffering at the expense of others. Jews are not granted specificity in suffering: it must always be compared to the suffering of others, and found wanting. And if you want to see that in action, have a look at some of the responses on here - or no doubt, below this message - to the various attempts to commemorate one acute example of Jewish suffering, that took place three years ago today.

Iβve written and researched the whole seven front war since 7th October. It has been my whole professional life. Iβve written many papers and have just finished my book. I have written both positive and negative critiques of the war.
All of that feels irrelevant in this context. The most meaningful thing I have done since 7th October is bear witness and relay the horrors done that day. I have seen part of the sexual crime evidence in this report (above and beyond the 47 minute reel) and it remains the most horrific thing I have seen in my life. Nothing Israel has done in Gaza comes remotely close to the horrors of 7th October. The Gaza war and 7th October donβt deserve to be in the same conversation when it comes to atrocity. No comparison.
The rapes are the thing Hamas and their supporters are most scared of being exposed to the world. Every time I have written about what I have seen, 5x the usual amount of bots descend upon my replies. Abuse and outright denial.
Now, the evidence I have seen, and more, is out there. When Yoav Gallant said Israel was fighting human animals in Hamas, he was absolutely correct.

If everything thatβs going on in Israel is incomprehensible to you, watch episodes 7-8 of Fauda season 5, about 7 October 2023. It will haunt you. But it helps, just a bit, to understand the fanaticism, murder, terror, rape, and carnage that began the latest round of violence.

This is an absolute disgrace! Talk about the Guardian going to the dogs, it is not sexual choking, she was strangled to death. This headline must be changed immediately. Iβll be writing to the readers editor. Please also join me in doing so:

I grew up on the top deck of the number 44, watching London go by. Today, our buses are cleaner, greener and more affordable than ever.
As the son of a bus driver, I couldnβt be happier.

No matter who wins the continuing front page PR battle as to who is the most discriminated against group on the planet, globally "Misogyny-driven lethal violence against women and girls results in a significantly higher absolute number of annual deaths than racism, antisemitism, homophobia, or ableism". The lethal War Against Women continues. The clearly intentional refusal to focus on that detail continues.
Claims that it's mainly in other countries with other religions is just another example of us, men, globally letting ourselves off the hook. The evidence is hidden in plain sight. The in our faces fact conveniently never makes it to the front page.
Fact check or just shrug and walk on by. Ask in your browser, "Is it true that misogyny results in a significantly higher absolute number of annual deaths than racism, antisemitism, homophobia, or ableism?" It's easy to do and then check on how that is reflected in the media (overwhelmingly owned by men).
And who is responsible for this deadly war against The Female? Clearly: The Male.
But we guys don't have to worry. We have a get-out. Collective responsibility is vehemently rejected, globally. So we don't have to worry. We can continue with, "None of us individually can be blamed, and "I don't personally behave like that". Don't worry, those self-serving mantras will never die.
On the other hand we could demand those figures take their rightful place on the daily front pages and news-casts and social media outlets and as a result, rightly, in all our minds.

On Carnaby Street last night, a kid on a bike cycled up, saw it was me, looked friendly at first then offered up his favourite βlyricβ: βHeil Hitler.β I wasnβt sure whether to share this. I hadnβt experienced that personally before. The most striking thing: I wasnβt shocked. No threat. No anger. Not a victim. Just: what has he been taught Hatred is learned. We are not defined by it. We answer it by what we teach.
