Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. What about painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them. Via @StreetsblogUSA @StreetsblogNYC usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/…

Ford blamed students for OSAP being "unsustainable." The truth: his government got scammed out of hundreds of millions, and now students are paying for it with new debt. Students didn't break OSAP. Doug Ford did. #onpoli

When you're a progressive, racialized, senior woman, you can win by 10+ points and win the most votes in Canadian history and they'll still write a headline undercutting your political vision and the size of your victory.

Daniel Levy | Former Israeli Peace Negotiator | US/Middle East Project (@USMEP): Netanyahu did not alone commit genocide for 3 years. He did not alone maintain decades of illegal occupation. It was system-wide. Eisenkot was part of it & served in the military. He sat in the emergency unity security cabinet after Oct. 7 - during the genocide. Israeli generals, soldiers & judges - all part of a system-wide mobilization. Dissenting voices existed but remained marginal.

The Netherlands is boycotting Eurovision due to the inclusion of Israel amid a genocide. Now is not the time for Canada to join this contest. Canada must withdraw from Eurovision 2027.

If we’ve reached the point where parents can’t come up with three things that make their children special without the help of AI, then humanity is doomed.

The people cutting employees while revenue is growing are the same people you're counting on to pay your UBI out of the goodness of their hearts.
Microsoft is offering buyouts to 60,000(!) employees. Headcount and revenue growth is really starting to diverge at tech companies.

Raise your hands if you support that google should bring back the non-AI version of Google. Like no AI summary, no AI overview, no AI to read the internet, like we want Google to show the actual results.

The most important risk factor for Anthropic is the rule of law actually being applied. "Any determination that we are liable under such theories, or any judicial or regulatory expansion of tort, product liability, or consumer protection law, or criminal liability, as applied to AI models, could result in significant liability and require us to change how we design and offer our models, platform, and applications."

“Without human authorisation” is a positioning statement at the heart of AI PR campaigns. This perspective should explain why this is propaganda that’s enabled by the media. When an AI company takes down a national grid, hospital, or anything else that causes blackouts or deaths, the media and public will already have been conditioned to believe “the big AI lie”: that software is now conscious and can cause harm without authorisation from the company or government that built or deployed it. This reminds me of how Apple conditions people for technology it plans to release years later. Apple does it in the name of innovation. AI companies are doing it to normalise dangerous behaviour while distancing themselves from responsibility and accountability. Imagine if Zuckerberg blamed all the harm he has caused and continues to cause on autonomous newsfeeds, and his cult followers building apps on his technology, along with the media, believed every word his interns posted on social media. FACT for Reuters and others who want to report responsibly instead of chasing clicks: Anthropic and OpenAI are playing the media like a puppeteer. AI operates within permissions and access granted by people. Sometimes companies deliberately authorise dangerous actions while denying responsibility. Other times, harm results from negligence because they failed to understand, restrict or monitor what they’d authorised. Please stop conditioning the public to accept dangerous and illegal behaviour from big tech companies as if software is acting independently of the people responsible for it.

Isn't it crazy that the people warning us about the dangers of AI are the ones that are creating it? Why not just pull the plug? What are we doing here? Why do we continue going down this path?
Sam Altman: AI has fully defeated most of the ways people authenticate today. “Voiceprints as authentication are a crazy thing to still be doing. AI has fully defeated that.” “I am very nervous that we have a significant impending fraud crisis.” “Just because we’re not releasing the technology doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.” “Soon, a video FaceTime will be indistinguishable from reality.” “People are going to have to change the way they verify who they’re actually talking to.”

“I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT” is the single saddest sentence i’ve ever heard
Jimmy Fallon asks Sam Altman if he uses ChatGPT to raise the baby he has with his husband, and his answer is hilarious Jimmy Fallon: “You, you and your husband just had a baby. Congratulations, yeah. How old? How old is the baby?” Sam Altman: “Eight month old?” Jimmy Fallon: “Are you loving him?” Sam Altman: “So much. I have no non-cliched thing to say, but it is by far so much better than anything anyone tells you. I just so incredibly happy.” Jimmy Fallon: “And do you use ChatGPT when, when raising your baby?” Sam Altman: “I do. I mean I feel kind of bad about it because I, we have this like genius level at everything, intelligence sitting there like waiting to unravel the mysteries of humanity.” “And I'm like, why my kid stop dropping his pizza on the floor and laughing?” “So I feel like I'm not asking a good enough question.” “But it is, I don't know. I cannot imagine having gone through like figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT. Clearly people did it for a long time, no problem.”

Musk fucked up. No one can trust him. He earned that.
India said NO to Starlink. Musk thought he could throw a public tantrum and bully India into handing him a telecom monopoly, but he completely miscalculated. Thanks to Trump’s reckless betrayal of global allies and cozying up to dictators, the world is waking up to a terrifying truth: you simply cannot trust America—or its arrogant billionaires—with your national security anymore. Fareed Zakaria: “Elon Musk picked the wrong moment to lecture Indians. Frustrated that Starlink had not been cleared to launch in that country, he accused the government of protecting Mukesh Ambani whose telecom network Jio will launch its own satellite service. Musk cast himself as the champion of ordinary Indians against one of the country's richest men. It backfired. India's government dismissed his accusation as baseless. An influential nationalist group close to the ruling party went further demanding that Starlink be kept out of India altogether citing national security. Media and online reactions were similarly hostile to Starlink. Musk did not understand that in India as in much of the world, trust in America is collapsing. Indians have watched as Donald Trump has discarded 25 years of bipartisan outreach to New Delhi in favor of cozying up to Pakistan and its de facto dictator Field Marshal Asim Munir. They have watched Trump essentially abandon Ukraine, where the military version of Starlink has been suspiciously restricted, thus crippling Ukraine's military response to Russian aggression. Would India define itself in another crisis with Pakistan? Would it want its armed forces to be utterly dependent on a US satellite system controlled by Trump?”
