All told...it took 11 months to get paid.

After he sends the payment through he proceeds to say I do great work and they could use me for their kitchen remodel if I'm willing to take on the project...With the straightest face, I tell him "sorry can't help you".

He then asks if he could run inside to write me a check. I proceed to tell him Paypal, Cash App or Venmo only. Like what I look like after all this...

Walked up to him and told'em what was going on then handed over the invoice. He was apologetic, claiming his wife handles the bills and he was unaware they owed me.

Another month and no payment. Go to the house again as she's not responding to any digital communications. Catch, what I assumed, was her husband pulling up.

The next month saw an invoice taped to the front door.

A month later, I stopped by with another invoice and met the "babysitter". I think it was her mom. Told her the situation and asked her to contact me immediately

She promised she would mail a check, but driving away I knew I just got played again.

Summer turned into fall, and then winter. Haven't heard anything from this client. So I decided to hand deliver another invoice. I honestly think she only opened the door because she didn't recognize me and forgot she owed someone money.

I left the paper invoice on the counter and sent her an email copy as a follow-up...crickets

I quoted her about $2K and didn't take a deposit due to the small size of the project which is atypical of me when working with a new client.

Our #contractor story comes from Payments Due Lady... I'm a full GC, but take small jobs for extra cash sometimes. Got contracted to knock off a punch list for a lady taking possession of a house. Nothing major just cosmetic repairs and maintenance.

I thought this was nuts, especially since we had an agreement in hand and they gave me no heads up. So I had to delay my start to get other quotes. I learned that day you can't even trust nice guys.

When I questioned the 3x increase. Dude said they mismeasured "a little" but mainly they were now busy so I had to pay a premium to stay on the schedule

After the 2nd visit, the company said they'd have to make a slight change to the quote...

Gave em' a call about 2 weeks out to get started. They said they want to come back out and re-measure. No problem sounds good to me.
