CBC's Saturday Political Panel on PM Carney's call to bar Russia from world juniors "Canadian and Russian hockey players should not ever play each other, especially not in Canada, as long as the war in Ukraine remains." "To allow Russia to play is to add legitimacy to an enemy."

The problem isn't putin agreeing to these principles, but moscow's failure to abide by them. 🧵 /1 C/O @IvoHDaalder
Thank you, Mr. Kushner. Those five principles are important. However, Moscow subscribed to these principles in documents signed in 1975 (Helsinki Final Act) and 1990 (Charter of Paris). The problem isn't agreeing to principles, but Moscow's failure to abide by them. 🧵 /1

2028 will be the GOP anf traitor trump final reckoning.
Trump believes the republicans got swamped at the midterms because Americans didn’t have enough of Stephen Miller. They still don’t get it. 2028 will be another reckoning.

The situation on the front is much better for Ukraine than it has been over the past three years. Kyiv has partly stabilized the front, is conducting counteroffensives in several places and is killing a record number of ruZZian soldiers. C/O @clement_molin

Americans, who established the international order and defended it for nearly a century, are now contributing to its destruction. Ukraine will not forget, Europe will not forget, our enemies will not forget, and history will not forget. C/O @TKouilou

Kushner talks about “30 years of mistrust” & “competing security concerns” Certainly sounds remarkably something putin would have written himself. Let's remind you what actually happened during those 30 years. C/O @Microinteracti1
Jared, your talk of “30 years of mistrust” and “competing security concerns” sounds remarkably like something Vladimir Putin would write himself. Let me remind you what actually happened during those 30 years. 1992: Russian forces intervened in Moldova’s Transnistrian conflict, helping entrench a separatist territory where Russian troops remain. 2008: Russia fought a war against Georgia and consolidated its occupation of Georgian territory. 2014: Russia illegally annexed Crimea and fuelled a war in eastern Ukraine. 2022: Russia launched the largest invasion in Europe since World War II, bringing massacres in Bucha, torture, deportations of civilians, the forced transfer of children and the systematic destruction of Ukrainian communities. Meanwhile, Russia had already signed the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, promising to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders, and the 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act, committing itself to European security principles. Europe already had a security architecture, Jared. Russia repeatedly violated it. Your language deliberately blurs the distinction between an aggressor and its victims. That is precisely how the Kremlin wants this conflict presented. Russia is a nuclear power. Nobody in Europe is preparing to invade it. Russia’s neighbours, however, have spent decades defending themselves against Russian aggression. And if you genuinely believe that no country should have a veto over another nation’s alliances, perhaps you should explain that principle to Putin. Europe does not need another security framework designed around Moscow’s imperial ambitions. It needs Russia to respect the borders, sovereignty and international agreements it has repeatedly violated. Stop talking as though Russia and its neighbours are equally responsible for this catastrophe. They are not.

No one forced russia to start this war. And no one should expect Ukrainians to apologize for defending their own lives. - Zelensky C/O @AnatoliUkraine
🇺🇦 Zelensky on Russian soldiers dying in Ukraine: “I’m not crying when I see Russian soldiers who came to our land to kill our people dying.” He says Putin made the decision to send them into another country, but those soldiers still bear responsibility for their actions. Russia invaded Ukraine. Not the other way around. No one forced Russia to start this war. And no one should expect Ukrainians to apologize for defending their own lives.

Ukraine is not for sale!!
🇺🇦🇷🇺 ZELENSKYY DRAWS A RED LINE: CRIMEA IS NOT FOR SALE Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected the idea that Ukraine’s territory can be exchanged for a temporary peace agreement with Russia. His position on Crimea is unequivocal: decisions about the peninsula’s future belong to Ukraine, not to foreign governments negotiating over its head. Russia occupied and illegally annexed Crimea in 2014, eight years before launching its full-scale invasion. The United Nations General Assembly reaffirmed Ukraine’s territorial integrity and rejected the validity of the annexation referendum. There is also a human dimension that territorial negotiations often overlook. Crimea is home to Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars whose rights, political freedoms and identities have been profoundly affected by Russian occupation. And a ceasefire that leaves territory under occupation is not necessarily the same thing as a lasting peace. It may stop immediate fighting without resolving sovereignty, the security of civilians or the risk of renewed hostilities. Zelenskyy’s position reflects that distinction. He is rejecting the idea that Ukraine should permanently surrender internationally recognized territory in exchange for a promise that the fighting will stop. Any eventual settlement will involve difficult decisions. But international recognition of Crimea as Ukrainian territory has not changed simply because Russia has controlled the peninsula for more than a decade. For Kyiv, peace cannot mean allowing another country to decide which parts of Ukraine it gets to keep.

putins answer to the prospect of talks was another assault on the Ukrainian infrastructure that civilians depend on. C/O @LetsArmUKR
🔥 UPDATE: Trump says he has held phone calls and expects a US-Ukraine-Russia meeting on Monday or Tuesday. Zelensky says Russia is striking Ukraine's energy system ahead of the talks. The latest assault involved 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles aimed at Kyiv and its region. Trump told reporters that Russia and Ukraine want to reach an agreement. He plans more calls on Sunday. A meeting is being prepared while Russia continues to attack. In Kyiv, homes were damaged. So were the Pivnichnyi Bridge and a kindergarten. Nine people were hurt, including a child. Power, water and heat supplies remain disrupted. Zelensky urged the US to strengthen its support for Ukraine. Keep it a priority, he said, and tighten sanctions on Russia. Russia's answer to the prospect of talks was another assault on the infrastructure civilians depend on.

Nothing to see here. Just Trump appointing his own Joseph Goebbels as Chief of Staff. Put Stephen Miller beside the original Nazi propaganda minister and the resemblance is uncanny. If this isn't a five-alarm warning, what the fuck is?

Never forget. Mariupol Drama Theater, hundreds of people seeking shelter. A huge text "DETI", children, written next to it, since even during a war we don't expect anyone to bomb children. russians are not human.

Ukrainians want the ruZZians you so vehemently support out of their land!! Not so hard to understand stable genius with the high IQ!!
Nope. Ukrainians do not want to settle. They want to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. They want Russia out of all Ukrainian territories. They want Russia to return all Ukrainian hostages and stop torturing and killing people in captivity and on occupied territories. Ukrainians want to live free of fear. "Settling" does not cover these legitimate aspiration of the Ukrainian people. I also have zero trust in Trump's prospective "guarantees".
