This was earlier this week, before his rapid decline was in full force. Just as it always had been, the pace at which my father did something was to the max. The weight of it took his life this morning.
My father provided my mother a life that one can only dream of. As his son he was always there for me. Every time I needed my father, he had my back. I had the privilege of telling him this and thanked him for all that he a done for me.
Last Wednesday he told me at bedtime “I miss my Vivian” (who passed just 4 weeks ago tomorrow). I didn’t know at the time but it was his way of letting me know he was checking out. The “all gas, no brake” guy that I grew up with decided that was it for him.
My father was the most restless person I’ve ever known. He lived life with an unbounded confidence, optimism and energy. As his son it was both exhilarating and exhausting to witness …. along with occasional moments where you were holding on for dear life.
