During the 9th World Investment Forum, held in Doha, Qatar, from 25–27 October 2026, Amb. Dr. Mohamed Kadah, COMESA Assistant Secretary General for Programmes, led a delegation from the COMESA Secretariat and the COMESA Regional Investment Agency @RIA on modernising outdated International Investment Agreements (IIAs) and improving investment facilitation.
The delegation highlighted @UNCTAD Development’s Guiding Principles for International Investment Agreement Reform and engaged @UNCTAD, @UNIDO and International Institute for Sustainable Development to explore opportunities for cooperation.
Discussions with @UNCTAD also advanced plans for 2027 to support Member States in implementing the CCIA and modernising Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs). 🤝 These engagements support stronger regional investment cooperation, modernised policies and increased investment for sustainable development.

At the World Investment Forum Plenary Panel on Rebuilding Global Value Chains for Growth and Resilience. With H.E. Mr Li Chenggang, International Trade Representative of China, H.E. Minister Ahmed Al Sayed, Minister of State, Foreign Trade - Qatar, Mr John Denton, Secretary-General of the ICC @ICCSecGen and General David H. Petraeus, Partner and Chairman, KKR Global Institute and former Director of the CIA. Moderated by Adrian Finighan @afinighan of Al Jazeera. Talked about the need to rebuild global value chains not just for resilience but for robustness. Focusing on those investments that would make diversification of value chains and building of alternative routes possible. In particular, the panel talked about the existing concentration of investment and trade on AI goods and services, and the importance of diversification of both trade and investment to include other sectors as a way of dealing with potential downside risks of AI.
