I made two new friends at the beach while my husband napped It was supposed to be a quiet evening at the beach with my husband. Instead, I ended up having one of the strangest encounters of my life. This happened early last October, when the weather was already getting too cold for beach trips. I'd convinced my husband, Jim, to come with me after work. He'd been working from home and was completely exhausted. I promised him we'd get some chowder at his favourite grill afterward, so he reluctantly agreed. When we arrived, the beach was almost empty. The sun was beginning to set, and we probably had an hour before it got dark. We settled into our beach chairs. Three minutes later, Jim was fast asleep. Completely gone. I wasn't particularly bothered. I was happy to enjoy the peaceful evening while he rested. Then a young couple arrived and spread their towels about twenty feet away from us. They seemed friendly and comfortable with each other. At first, I barely paid them any attention. But something about the way the woman kept looking in my direction soon caught my attention. I had no idea that a simple evening at the beach was about to become so unusual.
