Useless Flame

⚡️Modern corporate employment offers low day-to-day volatility, while long-horizon security is much weaker than the branding suggests. That is the trap in the word “safe.” A paycheck arriving every two weeks feels safe because the variance is low. The danger sits in the structure. You have effectively concentrated a huge portion of your economic life in one counterparty that can terminate the relationship unilaterally. You can perform well. Your manager can love you. Your division can hit its numbers. Then the CEO changes strategy, a board wants margins, an acquisition happens, a new CFO decides the org is bloated, your function gets centralized, your work moves offshore, or software makes eight people sufficient where twelve used to be. Your performance can be completely orthogonal to the decision that eliminates you. That is real powerlessness.
