💧 Restoring Canals, Building Resilient Communities
For years, communities in Pachgaon, Kalmakanda, have faced a double challenge: flooding when rainwater rushes down from the surrounding hills, and water shortages during drier periods.
🌱 Through canal restoration, this EU-supported project aims to improve water flow management, reduce flood risks and increase water availability for local communities and surrounding areas.
On 14 October 2026, the EU Delegation team visited villages in Kalmakanda where the Initiative for Human Rights and Environmental Protection (IHREP) project is being implemented by the Protibondhi Community Centre with EU support.
🤝 The first step? Listening to the people. Their local knowledge and lived experiences are essential to shaping solutions that respond to the community’s real needs.

The EU - partnering with Bangladesh to ensure safe, dignified and regular migration.
Last week, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, visited Bangladesh, meeting with Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Prime Minister’s Office to discuss strengthened cooperation on migration management, including the implementation of the Eastern Corridor Initiative. The conclusion: strong Bangladesh and EU commitment to work together, zero tolerance for irregular migration and a clear ambition to reinforce legal pathways.
In addition to the Government, Commissioner Brunner met with our EU member stares and key implementing partners, Brac, ILO and IOM. He also visited the July Museum, which memorialises the uprising of 2024 and the victims of forced disappearance and other human rights abuses.
In parallel to the Commissioner visit, a group of European journalists travelled to Bangladesh, meeting with beneficiaries of relevant EU migration-related projects and local journalists specialised in migration.

The Ethiopian Embassy in London held a virtual dialogue with around 100 members of the Ethiopian community in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland to discuss current national issues. Discussions focused on major development projects underway in Ethiopia, the country’s future development priorities, and the challenges it faces. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to Ethiopia’s progress and expressed their readiness to work closely with the Embassy to strengthen diaspora engagement and contribute to national development.

A health delegation from the Maldives, led by Minister of State for Health, Family and Welfare Mohamed Mahir, has arrived in Sichuan. The delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare (@MoHmv), MMDC(@mmdc_mv), MNMC(@Mnmc_Maldives), IGMH(@igmhmv), Hulhumale Hospital(@HMH_mv) and MNU(@MNUedu).
During the five-day visit, they will visit well-known hospitals, medical schools and medicine companies, and meet with relevant departments.
I hope all delegation members will take this Sichuan visit as an opportunity to strengthen communication and exchanges with relevant Sichuan departments and health institutions, deepen understanding of China’s experience and practices in medical services, talent cultivation, capacity building, medicines and medical equipment, and actively explore multi-level, all-round and sustainable cooperation pathways.
